Maybe not.

It's funny I saw the two teams and the name and I knew this was a Dumba Nylander trade. I woulda put money on it.

If the Leafs were going to get a good Dman, they would get a defensive guy(i’ve heard of this guy, Brett Pesce. Plays for Carolina?) they don’t need another Rielly/Barrie esque no-defense guy

Dumba is good defensively when he's scoring. His problems come when he's not scoring and forces plays in the offensive zone. When the scoring comes naturally, he doesn't do that and was solid for us defensively. Dumba falls victim to the offensive defenseman = bad defensively narrative so much on this website, but it's just not entirely true, especially defending against the rush.

I don't think the Leafs do this. Nylander is one of their best contracts and he's a fantastic young player who has a lot of chemistry with Matthews. I would have been happy with this trade for the Wild a couple years ago while Nylander was still developing, but he's played so much on the wing that I think he'll have a harder time playing center which is what we'd need him to be.
