Well it all depends on how you value the two guys. I value Bratt highly and Ristolainen low. New Jersey doesn’t even think about doing that trade. Bratt is still super young and very skilled. He will be part of their top 6 one day. Maybe next year second line minutes. I don’t like Ristolainen at all. He sucks at defence and he is ok at offence. He is also older than Bratt. New Jersey says no, and have you forgotten that they are rebuilding? They are probably going to trade Palmieri and start their rebuild process.

He puts up about 40 points a season and had a +/- of 0 on a dog s*** team.... Hes gotta some things to work on but he's a solid defense who's is constantly putting in work!

Starting their rebuild? They have drafted 1st overall two of the last three drafts and you think they are starting the rebuild NOW?

Ristolainen is 25, not 38.

He is a offensive defence man. That is older than Bratt. They are keeping Bratt. I don’t like Ristolainen at all, I rather have a guy that is decent at defence or a guy like Bratt over Ristolainen. He may have value but not as much as Bratt!

Ya and Bratt is 22. Younger than Ristolainen! They aren’t doing that trade. Look at their right side anyway! They may not rebuild but they aren’t any good. They are either rebuilding or retooling.

22 vs 25 years of age is not compelling.

I rather have Bratt that is 22. That’s all I’m saying.

thats nice. New Jersey seems to not value bratt and a change of scenery at a time he needs a new contract is a reasonable concept.

@littlejerryseinfeld You tried to make this argument a couple of months ago. Arguing Bratt's value to the team based on time on ice is (STILL) ridiculous. Bratt was one of the best offensive pieces on this team - and once there is some stability, he'll be earning actual top-6 minutes.

The fact that you continue to make this trade is interesting though. You're trying to buy low on Bratt because you know his upside; while selling high on Risto because you know he's overpaid. Risto's stock is falling and he's a borderline cap dump - not to mention it would be insane for NJ to have >$18M spent on RHD alone. You're on your own planet if you think this is reasonable.

i think bratt is a middle 6 winger, which is what I think ristolainen is worth.

Find a different middle-6 winger then.

I don't have anything against Risto, but NJ needs to add talent without losing it at this juncture. Not just swapping it between areas. I don't see them adding a significant contract at RD for a couple years, either, unfortunately.

I think NJ needs someone more able to play left D as well and that’s Montour, Colin Miller, and Jake McCabe.

The other thing with Risto that I will say you have to look at what he does well if you’re bringing in Ristolainen, you want him to play on the power play as he’s one of the most productive PP defenseman in the league. NJD already uses Subban and Severson in these roles and both guys already play top four RHD minutes. They really don’t have a spot for Ristolainen unless one of those guys experiments on the left side. Colin Miller makes the most sense here, but he’s not getting Bratt in return, more like Zacha in a swap or Miles Wood and a pick
