Working on the Island

Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 2, 2020
Published: Aug. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For those wondering on Ladd, I simply don't see a scenario where he plays next year and going off the hope he gets placed on LTIR. Ladd has 3 years left at $5.5M and is completely Buy out proof.

Ladd has had several knee injuries and rather high NHL Mileage so it's not 100% Solid but I could see this being the scenario with Ladd.

Fixed up the lines that I think that will work the best with Lee paired with Nelson and Beau with Barzal since they have the most chemistry and similar play style that complement each other. Trotz is forcing chemistry which won't work and is unnecessary since this works better.

Isles defense is top notch with Pelech-Pulock as their shutdown top pair, Toews-Mayfield not as offensive but upright defense and Greene brought back and paired with youngster Dobson since they seem to pair seamlessly.

Sorokin and Varly will be a great tandem imo and isles should let Greiss go. Seems like a consensus.

Kings deal is a pure cap dump, Kings get a stabilizer for Kings left side and Komarov could be demoted at a $1.925M cap hit if their is no space which is no problem for LA considering their available cap room.

Ottawa trade is just a vet for their young team to go with Zaitsev. Boychuk can still play and will be a decent 2-3 RHD as a stop gap for JBD, Lassi Thomson, and potentially Drysdale.

Leafs deal is a swap of disgruntled and underperforming players.

I’m a fan but the only thing that scares me is if what if I’m not on LTIR, isles r kinda screwed in this scenario. Also, even with retention, it might take some assets to get rid of Boychuk’s contract

Overpayment to Barzel especially if you play him on the 2nd line. I think 7.5x7 or 7x6 is more fair for him. I also don't see him wanting to sign super long term, so my 7 year deal would prob get scrapped.

I don't think Boychuk waives for a non-contender unless he knows he's being bought out. Shouldn't be an issue with Ottawa though if they're getting paid to do it. Otherwise this team looks good given the circumstances.

I do wonder if Bellows will be the guy who the Isles try and use to ship a bad contract out this summer. According to Arthur Staple they aren't very high on him. I could see tying him (and a pick) to Boychuk and retaining less/none.

We aren't taking Boychuk if he wants a buyout unless you guys take Zaitsev.

4 years for 4 years. Also Melnyk hates paying for nothing.

If he doesnt need a buyout we'll take him for a 1st

Boychuk has two years left... And if you are referring to years 3-4 of his buyout those are $400k. Not even close to taking Zaitsev

Yeah but were gonna take him half retained to buyout? For future considerations?

Rather just offersheet Barzal. 8.4Mx2 with a 10M QO.

Isles will match anything for Barzal.

Let them. Then they will be really screwed for cap and we will ask for higher prices for cap dumps.

Detroit and LA exist so it's not endgame. Knowing Melnyk he probably will just simply sit on the money.

That's fine let them trade with LA or Detroit but that isn't gonna come cheap especially with only 2 teams to sell to instead of 3 with 20+ other teams competing with them.

They get Barzal at a very high AAV fir term and a very high QO.

Plus they probably have to drop 2 1sts or more to dump Ladd and Boychuk to have enough cap space.

Prayers that Ladd and Boychuk will be sent to Robidas Island but think trading Leddy, Bailey, and Komarov/Hickey, they should be fine.

They still don't have enough cap space. Komarov and Hickey won't be cheap to move. Probably a 2st for the pair.

Bailey is a pretty big piece for them but they won't get much of a return on him.

Not sure who wants Leddy. He's good but he's darn expensive.

Even with those moves they are still over the cap if they match that Bazal contract unless Pulock takes a big discount.

You realize the half retain would be on NYI books right? You would be buying out at $3m figure. So half of the usual cost... I don't see any point you're making here.
