Really don’t get all this kaprizov hype. I’d much rather pick top 10 than have him as a prospect

Because there’s a sliver of a chance this guy becomes as good or better than Panarin. Though with that being said, I don’t think he garners so much value until he’s actually played on American soil, because as we’ve seen with a lot of KHL signees, they don’t always pan out. The boom potential is why there’s so much hype with him, but people tend to forget about the bust potential as well.

He produced points at similar rates to guys like Tarasenko, Panarin, Kovalchuk, and Kuznetsov in the KHL at his age. He scored 30 goals in the KHL twice at age 21 and 22 (similarly impressive: he led the KHL in goal scoring in both of those years as well). None of the guys I just listed scored 30 goals in the KHL at 21 and 22. What Kaprizov has accomplished in arguably the 3rd best league in the world as a 21 and 22 year old is incredible. Not to mention he scored the golden goal for Russia in the Olympics, winning his country a gold medal. That doesn't sound very impressive when you take into account there were no NHL players that year, but Russia is a country that is so concerned with winning Olympic events and showing the world they are talented that they were willing to cheat to make it happen (watch Icarus on Netflix if you haven't to see what I mean). That's an enormous amount of pressure to put on a 20 year old at the time it happened, but Kaprizov delivered. It's a huge question mark about whether or not he can translate his game, but his potential is very high when you look at historic data in the KHL.

I don't see us making this trade. We've done so much to sign him, we will see what he is in the NHL before deciding if we're trading him.

That’s pretty much the consensus top 8 unless somebody takes Sanderson in there. But no way is MN trading Kaprizov after taking this long to get him here.

And no way MTL trade the #9 if one of those 8 fell to 9

I think a lot of it is that he can step in right away, being a top scorer in the KHL for a few years, probably ready to get top line minutes instantly. For some teams that are in that bubble of "bad but not bad enough" that is worth more than a top 10 pick who will take a few years to get up to that top line level. I probably wouldnt give a top 8 or 9 pick in this draft for him but I would definitely trade a pick outside of that top tier

When was the last time a top 10 pick was traded once the order was set? Obviously not counting the times when a team traded a 1st and then played the season and it ended up top 10 like OTT and SJS the last 2 years.

Dallas should accept that right away but I think that you are overpaying.

No Lundell isn’t near their level, he’s more around Sanderson Askarov Quinn after it drops to Mercer Jarvis etc

Not a Domi fan but if you’re adding Mete and taking Cogs I think I could warm up to the idea
