I'll take Harrington. Think him and DeAngelo would be a solid pairing.

We’d give you harry for a 5th. No need to over pay with a 3rd.

Idk if he'd fit with Trouba tbh. Kempny is a shutdown D and Trouba needs a puck mover.

Kings would definitely take Staal as opposed to Smith.

I think Trouba could fit nicely with him and would allow him to play a bit more offensively. So far he has looked good in 2 postseason games with Brendan Smith (who has played okay) who is being asked to do the bare minimum defensively. A player of that type thats actually good I think could work

I wonder if Rangers would even trade Staal. Rangers coaches and front office are the only people who don't see Staal as just a complete train wreck of a d man

In the event where the front office decides he’s going to be a cap casualty obviously. A guy with nearly 1000 games played would be a great mentor to any teams blue line, not the mention he’s a player who can still munch minutes in a top 4 role, which is what the Kings will be ideally looking for.

It would admittedly still crush my soul to see Staal in a Kings jersey

That is not how it works.
If someone offer's you something of higher value, take it.

I would also disagree that Harrington is worth no more than a 5th.
When Chicago & Pittsburgh won their cups and had to divest a bunch of players, they reaped the reward of higher returns for their players due to higher perceived value based on the success of the team.
I am not saying CBJ will win the cup, but they are now contenders each year and stocked with talent.
CBJ's lower line players who are trying to break into the line-up consistently (4th liners and 3rd/4th pairing D men) are better than most team's lower line players.
Let them pay a 3rd.

Thats why I was confused haha. Do you think his value would be closer to a 5th or 3rd?

Closer to the 3rd as he's an okay bottom pairing defenseman. We're just a tad spoiled for quality here.

Jackets d is so deep, when you consider how well they defend I think they are as deep as Carolina. Thats a matchup nightmare for the Leafs. Peeke, Nutivarra, Harrington next in line after a dynamite top 6. And all on good deals

Very solid D man on a reasonable contract, a 3rd probably isn’t out of line. I could see him returning a 3rd, 4th or 5th. That being said, he fits into the Jacketa system very well. Who knows how he would do woth another team and another pairing.
Also, if the Jackets do very well In the playoffs, and Harrington plays some quality minutes/hockey, his perceived value probably rises as well.
