Had Futa convinced him to sign in LA

Team: 2019-20 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 3, 2020
Published: Aug. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Always a pain when players don’t want to sign with you, then prosper somewhere else. Certainly upsetting to watch him this season in Chicago, but that’s the way it works sometimes. Game 1 of the Edmonton/Chicago series only further cemented my sorrow.

Agreed. I remember watching Jake Gardiner forego signing with the Ducks so that he could test the FA market, and it made me sad. No matter what your gripe is with Gardiner's defensive ability, or inconsistency, I really thought he would have looked good as a Duck.

Glad he didn’t sign. He’s as bad as this rangers defense...

The biggest problem with these players that seemingly hold out to get their choice of team, is that they garner little to no value. Why would a team spend assets on a player they could easily wait and sign in free agency.

You win some, you lose some.

If this wasn't allowed to happen, then you wouldn't have Cal Petersen.

Adam Fox would’ve been nice to have in red and black, though at least you got good assets in return for him.

No we wouldn’t, and I fully recognized how Sabres fans felt about him. It’s just a pain to think about what could have been.

Having a D-man to run the power play when he was putting up 50 pts would have been nice. I'm sure he would have caused many things to be tossed around the house, but yeah, I would have enjoyed having him for a bit. Would have also been a good trade chip.

I'm kind of torn on this, but only because I think it suppresses player's earning potential, given that their most productive years are typically the ones that they earn the least in. I love to see guys play their entire career in one place, but also think they should be paid properly to do so.

I meant if he had signed at some point.

Eh. Fowler and Lindholm did good so I’m cool.

I’d like to see Bobber go for Cernak.

The Fox one really annoyed me. The story is at the 2018 draft, the Friday night the Flames believed he would sign. Then by the Saturday that changed, forcing him to be included in the CAR trade.

For me, it’s more that I’d have given anything to be drafted by an NHL team, as is the case for most hockey players. I just hate to see players that refuse to sign, stinks of entitlement to me.

I know you don't care, but I think the pick we got for him was packaged to move up in the draft for the pick that got us Samuel Fagemo. So hopefully losing Kubalik doesn't hurt as much in the long run.

    But yeah, it stings.

The pick we got for Kubalik was packaged with Nate Thompson for the pick that gave us Kim Nousiainen. I don’t think in the long run not having Kubalik will affect the Kings too much, but obviously you’d prefer a 24-turning-25 year old 30 goal scorer to a late round pick, which could then be sold off for a lot more than what he fetched here.
