Hey LA

Description
Kopitar is signed long term, they have a highly touted center prospect in Turcotte already in the system, and it's fairly likely LA takes another center with their #2 overall pick if they take the 2nd best player available. Assuming these 3 things to be true, what would LA need to receive to consider moving Vilardi? What is their positions of biggest need to try to get back to contending while Doughty and Kopitar are still good players?

Looking for feedback from actual LA fans on what they think their team needs. Not looking to have a stupid conversation about value, I'M PURELY LOOKING AT LA'S POSITIONAL NEEDS!!!ONE1

If I had to guess, something like Boldy+Sturm+PIT 1st should do. LA might have to add something here though.

They're quite high on Vilardi.

Position wise, they need pretty much everything lol.

I guess I should have specified priority for positions of need. You typically don't draft #2 overall if you don't need a lot of holes on your roster filled. lol

Brodin for Vilardi makes sense for both teams.

I dont think LA has plans to trade Vilardi since we have been waiting for his since we drafted him and had been dealing with his back problems. Plus when he got called up before trade deadline he did actually quite well with the big club. Turcotte will probably see most of his time in AHL at first with some NHL time.

He is currently untouchable after his first 10 games. LA would be silly to move on from him. They will trade Kopitar and roll with Vilardi/Turcotte/Byfield or Vilardi/Turcotte/Stutzle if needed. However I genuinely believe they are picking Stutzle which gives them the ability to not have to move on from Vilardi, Turcotte, and Kopitar. If they draft Byfield, Kopitar will have to be traded much sooner I would think.

The biggest needs right now are top six wingers (both sides) and an upgrade at 2RD. However with the decline of Jeff Carter and Turcotte/Byfield being at least another year away from the NHL, I don't think there's a chance that the Kings will move Vilardi. I wouldn't say he's untouchable, but they're not going to consider moving him unless there's an offer that's just too good to refuse.

Brodin would be the perfect D partner for Doughty.

A healthy Vilardi probably goes 6th OA in a strong draft...so something equivalent to that...

As many have said, the Kings need a lot of different things, including wingers...I'd assume they just put one of either him or Turcotte on the wing long term and continue on with their lives though.

Brodin is a UFA next July. If the Kings trade Vilardi for him only to see him leave to another team, Blake will get laughed out of his job.

If the Kings are trading away a 20 year old top prospect, they're going to expect one in return. There's no trade that happens for Vilardi that doesn't have Boldy heading back to LA. Minnesota would have to add in order for LA to consider it though.

Starting price is Boldy and a 1st.

Maybe, but not at the cost of Vilardi. They have the perfect D partner for Doughty who will spend 1 more year in the AHL possibbly. His name is Tobias Bjornfot. Until then, hopefully they try to acquire Hjarmarsson or Leddy.

Obviously anybody is available for a price. I don’t believe any one player in the league (omitting McDavid or Crosby probably) is truly untouchable. That being said, with where the Kings are sitting now, it’d have to be an offer no GM could refuse. Vilardi Is argumentatively the highest touted youth player in the system, and with the Kings looking like their going to lose most if not all quality center depth fairly soon, I doubt they consider moving him for anything less than a premium price. Obviously not wanting to jump the gun and put Fiala’s name out there, as I’m sure the Wild are dead set on keeping him, I’d look at guys like Boldy and Addison if they were to consider moving him.

As is, it is looking like Turcotte will spend his first couple seasons at LW. That's even with Stutzle.

Turcotte Kopitar Brown
Stutzle Vilardi Frk

I completely disagree. Assume Brodin comes with an extension if that helps.
Brodin is easily worth Vilardi straight up!

Too old to be effective in a rebuild. Kings aren't going to trade away 15+ years of Vilardi for 7/8 years of Brodin. Realistically, that's how long both of those guys have left in their careers. Vilardi has 2 more years of $925k cap hit before he starts to make big money, while Brodin is going to get paid immediately.

So sure, if you want to do Boldy & Brodin for Vilardi, I'm sure the Kings would consider it. Short of that, the Kings will just stand pat and keep their promising 20 year old center.

I think that a lot depends on whether you and Pittsburgh win the play-in series -- actually, more on whether the Penguins go forward. Having that second first-rounder is a very strong factor. Boldy, Brodin and the later first for Vilardi is intriguing. I don't think anything less does it.

I think Boldy+Brodin+1st is probably too much of an ask. The entire year of Brodin's contract is probably worth a late 1st by itself, so I could see the Kings doing Boldy + Brodin, assuming the Kings had some plans on extending Brodin. Otherwise it's Boldy + Pittsburgh's 1st and another B prospect.
