It's not that we lost game one it's that it was a brutal loss. For the team that ranked 1st in the NHL for goals scored since Keefe took over in November to have so few quality scoring chances and not score a single goal, is pretty embarrassing

Not a single leaf fan traded away Matthews or JT today, those are trolls not fans

I didn't know David Ayres was playing for CBJ's.

It wasn't brutal, brutal is losing 4-0 and not being in the game, Leafs were in this game the whole way, I'm curious to see if CBJ can keep up the torid pace of fore check and back check without starting to slow and crack - CBJ had an aweful lot of bounces land on thier sticks

were you watching the game? It was utterly embarrassing! They weren't bounces, they were stupid puck bobbles by the leafs. The score didn't show just how bad it was. Jackets had like double the scoring chances - there were just a handful of shifts where the leafs actually got something going in the offensive zone.

They have to be much better next game, and actually play the way we all know they are capable of. They didn't show up at all aside from Matthews and Andersen, for the most part anyways.

Columbus played good defense and their forwards outplayed the Leafs defense; I wouldn't chalk that game up to a lot of bounces of the puck

Agree, Columbus outplayed them plain and simple. Columbus played good defense and their forwards found enough to outplayed the Leafs defense.

Ya I watched it, I watched a well disciplined defensive team clog up the Neutral zone and slot 58 mins of the game and a starting goalie (as good as Freddie was last night) let a clean clear shot squeak through (Freddie should of had that) and completely take away all the momentum the Leafs had created in the first shift of the 3rd period - that's what I saw anyway

I wasn't chalking the game up to bounces, Leafs should of and will need to shot alot more in the next game, make it painful to clog up the slot , shot often shot hard dig out the block shot or rebound, perimeter puck play is exactly what CBJ is banking on

Ok but Freddie let in just one goal. I don't care if he should have had it, his team should have been able to come up with more than 1 goal. With a team as gifted offensively as Toronto, I don't care how disciplined defensively CBJ is, this offence ranked #1 in the league in goals score after Keefe took over. They should be able to do better than ZERO goals and the very few scoring chances that they produced, there's no question about it.

Calling a 1 nothing loss (empty better doesn't really count) a brutal loss is pretty much exactly the extreme take this guy is feeding off of. That game could have gone either way. I expect a bounce back and I don't think Columbus will play any better while TO has a large potential for improvement.

not saying I don't think that they won't get it together, but you can't sit there and say that that offensive performance wasn't frustrating and embarrassing

Frustrating yes, but the number of pucks rolling over sticks was more frustrating. Muzzin had the puck just bounce away several times. Same for Nylander, and Matthews. Hopefully the ice is better earlier in the day and that alone could make a big difference. I also look at Columbus's game and wonder, in what way will they improve and I don't see anything. They will need to win 1-0 or 2-1 and if TO adjusts and plays better I just don't see Columbus having an answer if TO starts finding cracks. The only thing that worries me is this being such a short series. It can get out of hand so fast.

Muzzin and Nylander also made a lot of brutal giveaways though, and most weren't with a bouncing puck, but regardless, NHLers have enough skill to grab most bouncing pucks. They just mistimed and mismanaged a lot of them.

I'm a huge fan, but I'm not going to make any excuses for them. With all of the money those guys make, I'm not making excuses for them. They have to step up. The team as a whole has to be so much better, and they have to do it quick, because as you said, it's a short series. If they play close to the way they did last night tomorrow, Columbus will take a 2-0 lead in a 5 game series

You are going overboard friend. They'll play better and I think that was the perfect game for Columbus. I doubt they do as well in game 2 and I am certain TO will be better.

it was a brutal loss. Tonight is a perfect example of what this team is capable of. They had more scoring chances in the first 10 mins tonight than they did all of game 1
