Bonino retained for Kerfoot straight up would be an interesting trade,
Marner trade is intriguing. Flames would love you but it is also great for you

@JaredOfLondon according to you, the Leafs don't need grit but clearly your brethren don't agree and as you know, I don't agree with you either

I think they could more grit and better defensive forwards, but NOT at the expense of the offence of this team. This team is still just as scary offensively, but brings an element that makes them versatile enough to match up well in pretty well any playoff series. Would also take the load off the D quite a bit, which I think has improved with the defensive-defensemen that I brought in - Zadorov, Braun, and Demelo

The way I see the flames trade is that CAL gets the producing star to go with an already rugged team, and to make Gaudreau far more expendable with just two years left on his deal. Leafs get a bit more toughness, but still bring back a guy that brings immense offensive talent. Whichever team does worse after the trade, gets the higher pick.

Exactly! There is not a line of 3 guys in the forward group who are great defensively and physical, that's a problem. Usually this is the 4th line and you want to put them on the ice as much as possible against the top line of the opposing team, Leafs lack that.

But, but, all they need to do is to outscore everyone right? It's that simple right?

Except there is adding grit on a guy they don't n3ed like Shaw or bringing in someone who they need (a defender for instance) who happens to also have grit. They arny being brought in for just sandpaper and redundancy

Switch the 2nd to 2020, and I think NSH should seriously consider this.

The overall value in the Colorado trade isn't bad, but I just don't see how it benefits Colorado on the ice right now.

Nichushkin, Valeri [RFA Rights]
Zadorov, Nikita [RFA Rights]

for

Johnsson, Andreas
Dermott, Travis [RFA Rights]
2021 2nd round pick (TOR)
2022 3rd round pick (TOR)
2020 4th round pick (TOR)

The first part of the trade, Zadorov for 2nd + 3rd, is fine - just not happy with it being 2021 and 2022. One needs to be in 2020, or both in 2021. Anyways, that part is fine basically.

Nichuskin for Johnsson, Dermott, and 4th seems like good value in a vacuum. BUT, the thing is that Colorado have zero need for Dermott since we're set at LHD. And downgrading defensively from Nichuskin to Johnsson just doesn't do anything for us. We are after all trying to win right now.

Not a bad offer, and admittedly even a little bit of an overpay by Colorado value-wise, but it doesn't help our team so it's not a trade I think Sakic would do.

Yeah, the other team should retain on the far better player just because you know, leafs.

Leaves logic.

well the reason they would is due to contract length. I still think leafs would have to add at the very least a third to get it done. I added a second because the market for Bonino could heat up quite a bit

Ya but it would take a bit of an overpay, and those two guys are two of the best defensive forwards in the game. You could literally match that fourth line up against any line and free up the big 4 to go full offensive
