That's not even a conversation starter for Minnesota to consider.

You don't think, Brad Hunt isn't worth much, and i'm not saying Bracco and Petan are either because they are not. However, Foligno will be a UFA and they will be getting Engvall and a 2nd for him, pretty decent value if you ask me for a guy that got 20 points.

the value is good in the colorado trade but the avs are in the same boat. calvert adds much needed grit and toughness. zadorov can go though.

Calvert, Matt ($800,000 retained)
Zadorov, Nikita [RFA Rights]

for

Dermott, Travis
Johnsson, Andreas
2020 2nd round pick (TOR)
2021 4th round pick (TOR)
2020 6th round pick (TOR)

That's a very fair offer and is actually good value for Colorado. We'd have to flip Dermott though as we have no need for a LHD (that's after all why we need to move Zadorov in the first place).

Johnsson at $3.4m is a bit too expensive to be on the 4th line and we don't really have a need for him on the 3rd line, so ideally we could flip him too. But I suppose we could fit him at 3LW if nothing else. He's a decent enough skater and can chip in some offense.

I'm not a fan of trading Calvert as he's our best 4th liner. However, Calvert is a pending UFA and this offer has a lot of pieces and overall it's a pretty enticing package. I mean, if we could flip Dermott for a 2nd and Johnsson for a 3rd or something like that then we'd basically be getting 2 2nd's + 3rd + 4th + 6th. Basically 2nd + 3rd for Zadorov, and 2nd + 4th + 6th for Calvert as a pending UFA.

Assuming that we can flip at least Dermott I wouldn't be against it. Calvert would be a loss but isn't irreplaceable.

COL trade has good value but they don’t have a spot for Dermott and the bottom 6F are full and they don’t need Johansson

Calvert is a very good 4th liner and would be a loss for sure, but he's not irreplaceable. Especially considering that the UFA and trade market for players like him should be really cheap this offseason.

Just flip Dermott and let Johnsson take Calvert or Jost's spot. Or flip him too. I reckon we could replace Calvert in UFA or via this offseason pretty cheaply. Trading Zadorov and a pending UFA 4th liner and getting almost a full years haul of picks (from the trade itself and flipping Dermott and/or Johnsson) would be great value.

Btw, I don't think Sakic would do this as he seems to be more loyal than to flip players around like that, but in terms of asset management that would be the logical thing to do.

I would love the Marner trade to happen. I am a big fan of Matthew Tkachuk, and so is Paul Maurice and Drew Doughty I think

2.5 is a bit rich for Dermott, more like 1.5 I think

You could flip Dermott but paying Johansson 3+ mil to sit on the 4th line is bad business practise.

Put Johnsson on the 3rd line then. He's paid $100k less than Compher and $500k less than Donskoi so price-wise he is paid fairly for a 3rd liner. He's not the grittiest player so I wouldn't really target him in a trade, but he does at least have the speed and some scoring touch to be useful.

This isn't a trade I would go looking for, but if Dubas wants to back the truck up on Sakic's desk to get Calvert for 1 year then i'd be inclined to accept.

I live in the TOR market and watch alot of Leafs.
I assure you that youd rather have Donskoi or Compher or Namestnikov > Johansson

Oh I don't disagree with that at all. I readily admit that I was doing mental gymnastics to try to squeeze Johnsson in. As I said though the ideal scenario would be to flip Johnsson for picks along with Dermott.

Take that package from Toronto, and flip Dermott for a 2nd and Johnsson for a 3rd, and you're looking at 2 2nd's + 3rd + 4th + 6th. That's basically a 5th + 7th short of an entire years worth of picks, in exchange for 1 year of Calvert and our 5/6 Dman who's surplus to requirements.

Then we turn around and sign a replacement 4th liner in UFA in what should be a buyer friendly market. Or alternatively just keep Jost around, or trade for Cizikas/Bonino/etc. Lot's of options.

start replacing guys like calvert with guys like johnsson and you'll have the same problem the leafs do. imo calvert is worth keeping.

It’s expecting the Wild to take Bracco and Petan that make this trade so absurd for the Wild.
Plus, if you are grading Foligno’s value on points, you are completely missing the boat on him. An astute hockey person would point out that on top of everything he brings (and he brings a LOT!)...he also contributed 20 points.

If we acquired Johnsson i'd be looking to flip him, and then sign an UFA 4th liner to take Calvert's place. Or use this haul of draft picks to pick up a younger version of Calvert via trade.

Flames would 100000% decline, only an idiot would trade tkachuk for Marner, tkachuk has everything, Marner just has offense. Marner probably would get 90 points and tkachuk would get 75 in a full season. 15-20 points is not that much also marner makes 4 mil more than tkachuk, can’t play physically or defensively. Tkachuk is miles better than marner.

Ah, the ol' "he got 20 points, he isn't of any value" argument.

Guerin is already discussing an extension for Foligno, they want to keep him. He's a physical presence who is a key player for their PK, which is exactly why the Leafs would want him. Hunt is a solid player who's been good for the Wild's 3rd pair playing both on the left and right. Again, they'll keep him.
