Ottawa declines. There's no incentive whatsoever. Smith is bad, they don't want/need him, and upgrading a 7th to a 4th isn't worth taking on his contract. They'd ask for a prospect or a much higher pick to come the other way. Marleau had 1 year left at $6.25M as a 40 point middle 6er and Toronto gave up a 1st to get rid of him. Smith has 1 year left at $4.35M as a 7th D/13th forward or worse. Not gonna be an upgrade of a 7th to a 4th that does it.

please don't give tony that kind of money, he has one dimension and has various non-monetary costs that impact any team negatively. He's good, but not 6x6 good.
