I don't believe you can include UFA. Last draft they were not protected. Seattle just needs to make the right offer.

Seattle can pick UFA players all they want. They just run the risk of them not signing. There’s only a certain number of players that absolutely must be under contract for the season after.

They can, but only 10 players they select can be on expiring contracts. At least 20 players need to be contracted for the 2021-22 season when they are selected.

If they select a pending UFA, they get exclusive negotiation rights to that player between the draft and free agent frenzy. The former team loses all negotiation rights. This option is essentially there to prevent teams from holding players without contracts until after the draft to get an extra protection slot. Any true UFAs likely won't be selected by Seattle and will just be offered a contract on July 1 (or whatever the UFA day will be next year).

I'd think Guerin would go the 8 skaters route and let Seattle have a forward before losing Brodin (assuming Brodin is extended before the draft). Just a guess, but he'd likely go:
Parise (NMC)
Suter (NMC)
Zuccarello (NMC)
Spurgeon (NMC)
Fiala
Erickson Ek
Brodin
Dumba

Which leaves Seattle to pick from Kunin, Donato, Foligno (if he's extended by then), Hartman, or Greenway. I'd give up any of those guys before a top 4 defenseman.

With no roster change, you analysis is right. The 4-4 option does make sense for a team with a deep Dcore and no offence depth like MIN. But can they afford to weaked their fowards roster even more?

IMO the best strategy would be to:
1)Resign Brodin
2)Trade Dumba for a foward + assets.
3) Go the 7-3 way and protect 3 more fowards.

They could also go 7-3 and make a deal with Seattle not to take the 4th defenseman but after seeing how Vegas got nasty deals out of that strategy, teams will be very carefull this time I guess.

By all means, PLZ take Kinkaid. Don't bother looking further into it, it's not like there's better options

Is Petry not expected to re-sign in Montreal after next season?

Thats what i personally think, yes. With his age, i expect either Seattle to not be interested, or he doesnt resign and tests free agency? One of the 2

Yeah, there will 100% be better players available from Edmonton. Kuffner won't be the pick.

As it stands, MTL would have Armia (maybe Lehkonen -- but I personally highly doubt it), then 3 out of Chiarot, Mete, Fleury, and Juulsen vulnerable.
I'm thinking you're remembering the NJ days... Kinkaid is washed, he's never playing another NHL game, so literally anyone else is a better option for SEA .
Also, he's still on the books for Capfriendly, but MTL made his departure from the team and from Laval official. He's a free agent next season and it seems doubtful he'll get any offers to sign elsewhere

Well, a lot can happen in a year, but I'd imagine Kassian will be exposed. He's a physical guy who can energize the team and set the tone as well as score goals: he has 22 goals and 22 assists in his past 82 games, all at even strength.

I would think his spot would be in Edmonton, i mean that organization loves him, but i see what you mean. ill make sure to look at Edmonton once free agency is done and when i do my 2nd of 3 Predictions.
