That Buffalo trade would work. Lundqvist gets to play in the NHL close to NY city. But ending his career in Buffalo would suck.

Not sure why you think Arizona should pay to move Stepan (in the form of Grabner), but that Rangers can move Staal without giving anything up. Unrealistic.

Coyotes aren't paying? they are dumping for free. that's $10M off the books for Hall. Kings have use for Staal. He'd play big minutes for nothing. Grabner sucked this year. What did you see the goal against NSH and think he's justified his entire season? No. Stepan and Grabner are $10M are aging, regressing, veteran forwards that'll be replaced by ARI youth and to bring back Hall. That's an easy accept from ARI.

I think the Sabres pass Lundqvist had an amazing career but is starting to look old and slow to react. Strome is not worth the contract he will likely demand

Kings can spend 5.75m in cap better than Staal. Even the Sabres may not be able to fit Henri and Strome in their cap though they would accept the trade (Lundqvist might not)

Grabner still has positive value, so they are paying. But I guess to move $10m it's worth it.

No no, Grabner doesn't have value anymore. What are you basing that off? he had a down year.

He scored a nice shorthanded goal against Nashville, still looks super fast. But i admittedly don't watch 'zona much.

I would have to think really hard about the trade.
Having Lundqvist would certainly generate a lot of positive Buzz in Buffalo. Something that is really needed right now.
You are correct on both accounts. BUT!
Lundqvist could be a good mentor for Ullmark, his contract runs out after this year and may play well with Buffalo.
While Strome is not my ideal either, he is an RFA and may cost less than Domi or Ristolainen about $5,000,000. Plus playing with Skinner and Kahun may see him generate pts for LH shooters.
This little experiment would only cost the difference between a 2nd and 3rd round pick. IMO not much to pay that could reap huge dividends.
Last, with the third coming back, Buffalo could offer sheet another teams RFA.

If I knew I could get Strome on a deal for 3 x 3.5 or 4 I would be on board but I expect him to get something more like 5 x 5. We can only have so many overpay contracts. Reinhart will likely get paid his worth so the only value contracts we will have are Cozens, maybe Kahun and maybe Oloffson. We have overpaid contracts for Skinner should be 6 or 7 AAV, Okposo should be 2 or 3 AAV and Strome should be 3 - 3.5. I just feel adding another overpaid player with term is going to lead to a loss of talent elsewhere on the roster and I don't think this player is a difference maker

Strome is not getting more than a 2-year deal at under $5M.

      You are correct.
Who ever the Sabres pick up in a trade or free agency ALWAYS does much more poorly in Buffalo than from where they came.
I am sure there may be exceptions but very few.
Strome will probably hit the 40 pt mark playing with Buffalo.
To make matters worse, the Sabres do not have any scouts so our draft will continue to be terrible.

I posted above that this is most likely a very fair trade, I am just uncertain if it is a good move for Buffalo after reading the comments.
I suppose the Sabres could go to arbitration and sign Ryan to a one year contract then let him walk or see what he will return at the TDL.
Either way it only cost them the difference between a 2nd and 3rd round pick, or about a third.

I am not sure why the Rangers would want to move him out and replace him with one year of stepan if they were getting such a minimal return for strome

For the the reason you do not want him, without Panarin he is a 40 pt center.
You convinced me. Bad trade for Buffalo.
