If Barzal Leaves Revised

Created by: Buffsbrain
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 5, 2020
Published: Aug. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know what everyone from MTL is gonna say, "We would rather have Dubois" This doesn't have to be MTL but I think of any team this could be the biggest contender to offer sheet barzy but you can substitute whoever you want, the return will be the same.

Isles need a 2nd round pick or need to trade for Cirelli's rights, here I have Leddy and a 3rd for a Kings 2nd to get that. I see Leddy going to the kings, he could do well there.

If Barzal leaves I wouldn't trade my first round pick... Massive overpay to get rid of Boychuk. Wood sucks.

Also to offer sheet you need all your own picks

This is the same team that let Tavares leave. Obviously it's different because Tavares was a UFA but I'm just saying the NYI aren't strangers to losing their best player

Yeah, zero chances MTL OS Barzal, they already have too much centre depth.

They actually have a say this time. They should've gotten Tavares a contract or a phone call the 2017 offseason.

this isn't a "depth" center. This is a #1C, something that MTL hasn't had in years

MTL is not a 1C away from being a contender, it makes zero sense to spend 4 firsts on him.

Kings decline. They aren't paying that much for Leddy, even with a pick coming back.

With Suzuki being better every shift, Romanov now signed, Caufield who's one year away, Ylonen now in Laval ; I think it's worth a shot. It's better to have too many centers then not enough. Also, no one in the habs roster have a 1C potential

Edit : Also, Habs won't draft 1 overall in the next 4 years unless they are lucky with the lottery. I'd gamble my picks

The real O-S cost for a 10,5M player is 2x1st, 1x2nd, 1x3rd... yes we could let go 2021 & 2022 first has our prospect sheet would be load up this summer with great kidz to develop

Ok, but again, Barzal alone (even with all the youngsters in the pipe) will not push MTL in contender territory. Actually, it will do the exact opposite: aside from the lost picks, it will summon cap hell on a team that need to sign an entire first line and a top 3 D. Paying premium on established stars is a guaranteed recipe for middle of the pack performance. Ask TOR or NSH fans if they're happy with Tavares or Duchene... Anyway, that's my opinion, you don't have to agree.

I understand, With Petry & Tatar money or even trading Lehko, Armia or Mete could regain some good draft pick escpecially Tatar & Petry for a high 1st or Great Prospect and 2nd... would help for more addition. + Knowing that many Defense will be in the UFA market the next 2 season this will leave some good lower price option... look at the list below... very impressive

I had done that for the offer sheet but i didnt know they had to be your own picks. With that noted I think Leddy gets the kings 4th rounder or if they own someone elses late third that could be of exchange

I'm very happy with signing Tavares. Scored 47 goals last year, over a point per game and this year nearly at a point per game despite battling an oblique injury. Barzal is also like 22 years old, not really the same context anyways. Barzal would make many players expendable, so you could trade to shore up your needs at LHD, among other improvements

The trade idea that keeps going around is Leddy and Komorov for LA Kings 2021 6th round pick. That also happens to be the most realistic trade too. Kings are still a rebuilding team, they won't be trading any picks higher than a 5th.
