Borgstrom is in the same category as Lias, at this point . Sort of a bust pick looking for a change of scenery.

While the mid 1st is nice, giving up both DeAngelo and Buchnevich for for that pick and a player we could basically swap Lias for isn't worth it.

They’re sayingLafreniere has the potential of McDavid but on the wing... you’d need to get both Ottawa picks 3+5... Generational talent should get you 2 elite players or potential players. If you can get Raymond and Rossi possibly, sure you’d consider that... but NYR RW depth isn’t good. Kakko can be very good, Kravtsov has not played in the NHL Yet. Not easy to just have him play top line his first year. Buch needs to stay at least one more season or one more deadline. I really do not want to be here as a fan for the potential of Buchnevich to become the JT Miller of another team.

True, that was a hard one to assess. Maybe a 1st + a 3rd + Borgstrom?

That's my dream scenario, I just don't think OTT would do it because I think they really want a shot at Drysdale. If it were to happen, Raymond + Rossi would be intriguing, but I'd really love Byfield + Sanderson or Byfield + Raymond.

For fun I did a little exercise.
In this scenario, NYR will pick #3, #21 (NYI current standings in league) and #33, OTT gets #1.

2015; McDavid vs Eichel draft
OTT get McDavid
NYR get D. Strome, Colin White and Mitchell Stephens.

2016; Matthews vs Laine
OTT get Matthews
NYR get PL Dubois, Julien Gauthier and Rasmus Asplund

2017; Hischier vs Patrick
OTT get Hishier
NYR get Heiskanen, Chytil and Kole Lind

2018; Dahlin vs Svechnikov
OTT get Dahlin
NYR get Kotkaniemi, Ryan Merkley and Jonatan Berggren

Id feel safer keeping #1OA (although the trade wouldve helped in 2017)

That’s totally fair, but it’s very likely NYR would only do it if they got 3+5... you don’t give up a chance at a generational talent unless the return is worth it. Also another thing, Lafreniere has C ability on the wing... can score and pass which in essence nullifies that NEED of another C. He makes the ability to have a 1 C and two 2/3Cs bc he can make those plays. They have a 1 in Zib, Strome before Panarin was on pace for 43... Panarin made him on pace for 70... will that continue? We can hope, but did that price Strome out of NY? When Zib is up for an extension, if healthy he will get a Panarin like deal IF the cap goes up after the country settles down with the outbreak...
Lafreniere would put CK on 3rd line within 3 years at $6.75M...

Panthers have no interest in deangelo. They don’t need anymore defensive liabilities on d

Is that deal meant to be for the Blues or just any team for a 3rd?

That's true, I just worry the Rangers will get bullied without a good second line center. But if Lafreniere can carry a second line like that, I'm down.

Those are some good points... I know it gets dicey when you trade down for need, especially from 1OA with such a generational talent. I just think the Rangers are so bad at center right now as an organization. But as someone else mentioned on here, I'd hope that Lafreniere and Kakko could carry a second line the way CHI had combinations of Sharp/Kane/Hossa/Saad/Panarin to carry their second line without a real strong center.

ok that makes sense, Blues don't have the center needs or cap space for that move but it's reasonable for plugging any team into

If you’re looking to have a stopgap at 3C until Barron is ready and take D-zone shifts away from Byfield, I’m a proponent of the Andersson for Bozak deal.
