Avs side of Wadejos123 trade

Description
Ingesting trade proposed by Wadejos123. If the playoffs solidify Jost, especially on the PK where he is now getting more and more reps at, they could have a cheaper cost controlled version of Compher in Jost which would make this pick a bit easier to maneuver

Zads to Florida is just for fun dont think too much about it, Panthers are down on Borgstrom from reports and thought it would be fun just to get each teams picks back and undo the Brassard rental trade

Saad doesnt really excite me but considering that we recognize that there is an odd man out scenario in our bottom 6F, the value seems fair.
In the Zadorov trade, id rather just have two picks instead and not give up a 3rd.

oh for sure on the Zads trade, I just did it for fun with no thought to it.

Originally I thought no way the Avs would do that trade moving compher out but work shopping it depending on Jost, I think it could a good move, especially if Saad was willing to extend. he will be 28 so its a good age as a UFA. Comparing him to the rest of the UFA crop I would rather have him over Dadanov, Hoffman etc

Depends on his price tag to extend, at 28 UFA signing age, if he was willing to do a 4-5 year deal around the same money I dont see an issue with the price.

I think so too, the more I thought about it, the more it could really work out for the Avs depending on the extension. he fits their mold with his 2way game.
Protection wise for the expansion draft Avs protect the top 6 and one of Nichushkin Jost or Donskoi. Then on D they have Graves exposed with Makar Girard and the Johnson with his NMC.
They will lose a good player no matter what, I dont think they are messing around with trading picks to protect guys.

If they lose a forward they have Newhook and Kaut ready to come in, lose Graves they have Byram and Timmins to step in.

I like the whole concept of the Saad Compher trade. The more it goes by and at the very least a flat cap situation I think it is a very real possibility Sakic pushes Burakovsky hard on a 4 yr deal especially if he only has an ok playoff performance. Isn’t Borgstrom playing in Finland next year, I don’t even think he went to their COVID camp?

jost shouldn't be the 3c of a cup favorite and you wont get him for $1.25m.

compher plus a 3rd is too much to trade for a rental.

I’m lukewarm on this TBH. Yeah Saad is an upgrade over Compher, but he’s also older and more expensive. Neither of these is a deal breaker, but it’s worth considering.

I expect Landeskog to be reunited with MacKinnon at some point (the big line always ends up together), which means you could end up with three guys that are probably more of goal scorers on the second line. It might not be the best fit, even though the two-way play suggests it could be. Saad on the third line with Jost and Nuke might make some sense and give the team some excellent depth, but then we're still left without that top 6 guy we're after.

All that said, it’s not the worst. I’d have to think on it more.

Yeah it’s not my favorite either buts it’s an interesting idea. More to actually debate over drouin or tatar for the 100th time

It’s big on a few things happening, jost showing well in the playoffs and picking up where he left off before the break and what is saads extension price

Refreshing to see a new idea for once

Not sure what Borgs issue was but just throws some value out there for zads, if you post a 2nd and 3rd to Kings or devils you get guys blowing a gasket about it

I don't think anything is confirmed on Borgstrom yet. He didn't join the team, but it was the vague unable to perform stuff that we need to get used to.

I would bet that Borgstrom wants to play in the NHL but is rightfully frustrated by his situation. If the Panthers were to trade his rights, my bet is he'd stay. Don't think the Avs have the room for him. If it were three years ago though I would absolutely take a chance on the guy.

Nice, a new idea! As you say it's a bit old discussing Tatar, Zadorov to NJ, etc so it's nice with some freshness.

I've been against acquiring a rental like Saad for a while, mainly because Chicago fans keep insisting on a 1st+ for him and I'm not too keen on trading a 1st for a rental.

That said, having watched many playoff games the last week I've kinda come to appreciate his type of player a bit more. I'm also not too keen on the UFA's due to age primarily. Acquiring Saad and extending him at a reasonable caphit might be a solid solution if we can get him for a reasonable return. He has a $6m caphit so the market should be fairly limited for him, and so I figure we'd have a good chance at doing just that.

We also have a bit of a log-jam on the 3rd line and it might make sense to move Compher if we're going to upgrade. The downside of that though is that we're left betting on Jost at 3C and he's yet to really take that job and run with it. Maybe we could resign Namestnikov as 3C instead? There's capspace for it after all, but I guess that Jost's low caphit would be better in 2021/22.

I agree with this. Where does Borgstrom fit in with Colorado? He's obviously got a lot of talent, but we don't really have space for him in the lineup. His only chance in this AGM would be to beat Jost for the 3C in 2020/21 (which is possible I suppose), because after that we'll have Newhook and Bowers joining who play the same position.

If we're going after Florida prospects as the main return on Zadorov then Kolyachonok might be the best option. Having been drafted in the 2nd round in 2019 he'll be ready to make the team at LHD on the 3rd pairing right around the time that Graves will need a new contract (assuming that he signs for 2-3 years). Presumably Graves will have priced himself out of the 3rd pair by then (just like Zadorov now), and having a legit LHD prospect ready to replace him then would be ideal. Right now we only have Zhuravlyov in the pipeline at LHD beyond Byram, so Kolyachonok would be a smart acquisition.

Looks good to me. Seems like a deal that makes sense for both sides. Avs have the cap space and should be able to extend saad somewhere around 5x5
