NYR lands the big free agent (Panarin), trades for the most coveted RHD (Trouba) last offseason, gets the 2nd OA pick in Kakko, has 3 viable goalie options, was completely healthy entering the playoffs and still gets dumpstered 3-0 by a 5 seed.

NYR needs to restructure this thing in the worst way possible

Here’s the thing... CK has a FULL NMC until summer of 2024... idk how these clauses work, but if they make a trade prior to the draft, I guess it’s the only way it can work but how do you give a player an extension with 4 years of a full NMC and trade him that draft?

1. CAR was a 6 seed but the issue on defense was TDA. Smith who is a borderline NHL player played better. Trouba actually played well, not amazing but he played with more edge and overall may have been the NYR best dman this series. TDA is a huge liability on the defensive side of the puck. Fox should be 1 RHD and Trouba 2. DeMelo is actually a very good stop gap IF Nils isn’t ready to come to NY for a few seasons. Fox will get extended soon for a lot of $. Rather have Trouba and Fox vs TDA and Fox.

Trouble with trading Kreider...do teams think he is worth 6.75m X 4 and giving up assets to get him. Teams might think I can spend 6.75m on a get quality player and keep the picks or ELCs The Leafs (and other cap strapped teams) just might have to dump quality players (not as good as Kreider) for nothing due to cap reasons. IMO the "trade value" of mid to high priced players without taking back similar cap is very low now.

*Whispers very quietly* They got Adam Fox for peanuts, too...

I don't think you've gotta overreact like this post is though-Nobody thought the Rangers were a contender this year, but Panarin pretty much dragged them to where they ended up. A full year of Shesterkin, a potential bounce back for Trouba, and a *hopefully* more developed Kakko makes this team dangerous down the line. Fill the hole on the left side of the D, and they'll be alright.

A 5 game series after a long layoff was always going to be a crap shoot anyway.

Stars pass. You aren’t taking any salary back. And moving our best defensive prospect for a forward should only be an option if the forward is better than Kreider

But idk if he can be traded because he just signed with a NMC for 4 years. But look at Miller, he was a mid 40 pt player and had a 56 pt season with NYR, goes to Vancouver and right away 72 pts in 69 games. I am 100% not a CK fan boy, but not many in the league are 55 pt players with his size and speed. He can be a 60-65 pt guy elsewhere with that size and speed.

I just think the market has changed in past two seasons. We are seeing RFAs getting close to UFA money. Just think there isn't going to be as much cap spent on older players. Plus the flat cap makes some contracts more difficult take on by teams especially if the Rangers are hoping no or very little cap is being returned in a trade. Kreider playing value might be 6.75m, but his trading value isn't

You can count Winnipeg out on that deal. No chance they give up their first for that package.
