End of an Era and its OK

Description
There is ONLY 1 correct move for the rangers in the offseason, and it’s actually 2. Staal and King Henrik have to be bought out. Staal I don’t think anyone cares about but Hank is a bit deal and huge hit BUT he is at best a backup right now and we cannot afford him with the cap staying the same. He gets bought out then signs a 1 year 1 mil bonus laden deal with a contender.

You can only have three retained salary trades, buy i think you can have as many buyouts as you want.

Strome has proven to play well with Panarin, it might be the Panarin effect but nevertheless you don’t mess up a good thing. Also at 5 million he’s easily moved. Even if he scores 60 points in a season that’s well worth 5 million. He’s responsible defensively and can play wing as well. Smith I agree but our LD in the AHL might not be ready, what you can do is bring Rykov up and play Smith at FWD on 4th line or scratch him and try Rykov. It would be stupid for the Rangers to acquire a D man right now unless it was in a trade for a 1 year player but I doubt teams are going to be giving up quality cheap talent with the cap remaining the same. Smith is home after next year, could buy him out but really no need to do so. He didn’t play terrible this year and was effective on 4th line FWD. Plus he hits and is fast, we don’t have much of that and we need some board banging guys.

That would be fine but he’s still a backup I don’t think he will get over 2 mil. Unless he’s cool with a longer term contract like 4 years.

Yeah I think you’re correct, but with new CBA who knows. It’s all speculation. Being the Rangers they will prolly retain Hank just because and make a mess of everything like usual

I thought it was 2 buyouts as a concession that cash rich teams wouldn’t have an advantage. Also I believe +35 buyouts have zero cap relief, so there is no point in buying out Lundqvist. I could be wrong on both points though.

I think you're right about the buyout limit, but I'm pretty sure the 35+ thing is only if the deal was signed after that age. I could also be wrong on both lol

I think that 35+ rule got tossed out in latest CBA.

You're close but off a little. You can only retain on 3 contracts at any one time, but you have the right to buyout any deal as you see fit.
