Also I definitely think CBJ could use some help on offence. Looking at the series so far I think even Johnsson could help them a lot. Their forward group is pretty bad and they have no playmaker on the power play.

offence is still pretty elite. Kapanen should be in top 6 though, I think he'd take a step forward. Robertson will take another huge step forward - not even Marner or Nylander played as 18 year old in the NHL. Or move Johnsson, and pay Dermott what he deserves (about 1 mil less on a shorter deal) and go get a guy like Toffoli in FA. Offence would hardly miss a beat- not because Marner doesn't make a huge impact, but rather because they have guys ready to take steps forward

5 years of marner for two years of Jones. Unless they are positive he wants to re sign they would be foolish to not consider this trade.

I thought this fascination with Jones would have given a rest for at least a day or two. His boneheaded foray into the Leafs zone, led to the breakaway by Tavares at the Leafs second goal. But for some reason, Jones seems to be the answer to all the Leafs problems by so many.

i think it's a fair trade...but dont see either team making it....if we are trading with CBJ i'd even add to it and send Johnsson over for Anderson

Cbj had 5 players below the dots If that were a leaf Dman going the wrong way then turning around and tripping over a player you can be certain there would be no excuse. But since it’s jones.... must be someone else’s fault.

We can't afford Toffoli if we want to re-sign Andersen and Hyman. He would bring us straight up to the salary cap.

Just leaving the team like this we can trade Johnsson in a year when his value goes back up and then we can re-sign Andersen and Hyman or let one of them walk and re-sign Rielly and Jones in 2 years.

Did you watch the game? Even if he gets the shot on net there’s a god chance the rebound could spring someone. While Tavares was leaving on a breakaway jones was laying down on his stomach.

It was poor defensive coverage, werenski was going to the net with the puck in traffic and jones didn’t even think once about defence.

Funny that you want to get on tavares who took one look at the situation and turned it into a goal but the guy who’s job it is to stop him from streaking in gets a free pass.

Werenski beat the “traffic” and was free when he let the puck roll off his stick.

Marner is a top 5 winger in the league. Jones is a top 5 RHD in the league.

RHD's are way more valuable than wingers from a positional standpoint, that's why. There are countless high end wingers, but only a handful of high end RHD's. Basic supply and demand applying to hockey's trade market. Then there's also the perspective that defensemen make a larger impact on the game than wingers.

Toronto would need to add because Jones plays a much more important position and is better at it than Marner is at being a winger, Jones is a rare RHD and Marner has one of the worst contracts in the league.
