Complete rebuilding

Created by: justaBoss
Team: 2020-21 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 5, 2020
Published: Aug. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Fire GM. Fire Coach. Sell the best players before they walk.

New GM: Dean Lombardi. He did great job with LA, and built a pretty good roster that won them a couple of cups.

New coach: Peter Laviolette. Coach Q is a great coach no doubt, but I ain't sure whether he's the right guy to coach a very young rebuilding team. His latest 10 year gig was with the dynasty of Chicago, which didn't really need much coaching, the material was so insane. Laviolette had done pretty well with the young team of Nashville, and I think he could have something to offer in a younger environment.

Imo the final piece of this rebuilding is to relocate to Quebec, but it's pretty clear it isn't happening.

Trades
1.
FLA
  1. Byram, Bowen
  2. Cole, Ian
  3. Compher, J.T.
  4. Newhook, Alex [Reserve List]
  5. 2020 1st round pick (COL)
  6. 2021 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
I know some COL fans are going to be b*tching about the return, but honestly Barkov's a TOP10 C, possibly TOP5 C in the league and with his contract being so affordable I do believe the cost of him being two top prospects and a first. Cole and Compher are added to make the money work so they can re-sign Landeskog and Burakovsky.
COL
  1. Barkov, Aleksander
  2. Weegar, MacKenzie [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
It's a pipe dream, really, but could you imagine a center depth consisting of MacKinnon, Barkov and Kadri. That sounds freaking insane. Weegar's a great RHD that I think would fit in COL system pretty well.
2.
FLA
  1. Domi, Max [RFA Rights]
  2. Fleury, Cale
  3. Kotkaniemi, Jesperi
  4. Norlinder, Mattias [Reserve List]
  5. 2020 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
FLA receives a great TOP6 forward and some good young prospects for their future building, alongside with a 1st round pick. The team is in need of some nice quality prospects, with some of them being already NHL ready. Naturally this pick is assumed to be the 9th overall one.
MTL
  1. Huberdeau, Jonathan
  2. Matheson, Michael
Additional Details:
Huberdeau would likely be the best forward to play for the Habs since 2000s, and I personally believe he'd be an instant fan favorite and exactly what they need. Huberdeau's contract is also very affordable, making him even more valuable. MTL also receive a decent D-man inked to a long contract in yhis exchange.
3.
FLA
  1. Liljegren, Timothy
  2. Nylander, William
  3. 2021 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
FLA receives a first round pick, a great top line winger and a great RHD prospect. Imo it's a win-win deal.
TOR
  1. Acciari, Noel
  2. Ekblad, Aaron
  3. Heponiemi, Aleksi
Additional Details:
TOR receives the big first pair RHD they definitely need, alongside a good affordable mid-6 forward and a good forward prospect.
4.
FLA
  1. Sörensen, Marcus
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (SJS)
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
FLA is in need for some future assets.
SJS
  1. Connolly, Brett
  2. Vatrano, Frank
Additional Details:
SJ is in need for some winger depth.
5.
FLA
  1. Smith, Brendan
  2. Trouba, Jacob
  3. 2021 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
FLA gets themselves a long-term RHD currently in his prime but who's somewhat overpaid. They also take a bad contract of Smith to boot, and receive a potentially low first rounder as compensation.
NYR
  1. Stillman, Riley
  2. Yandle, Keith
Additional Details:
NYI receives some LHDs they need quite much. Yandle's a 50+ point offensive D-man that could provide a lethal duo when paired with Deangelo. Stillman's a decent and affordable depth D.
6.
FLA
  1. Johnson, Tyler
  2. Katchouk, Boris
Additional Details:
FLA needs a long-term experienced asset, and Johnson is good in that regard. Because FLA is taking a bit of a risky contract in the exchange while retaining some money, they receive a good prospect as compensation in the exchange.
TBL
  1. Pu, Cliff
  2. Strålman, Anton ($2,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Strålman makes a comeback to Tampa, as they need a RHD. With half retained he's just the quite affordable, and likely a piece they need.
7.
FLA
  1. 2020 5th round pick (FLA)
MTL
  1. 2020 5th round pick (TOR)
  2. 2021 7th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Draft day deal
8.

I mean from your actual future team only Kotkaniemi and that 1st is going FLA's way. Domi is gone anyway and tbh Fleury and Norlinder are not going to be major assets for you guys...

I love huberdeau but kotkaniemi as a good 2-way centre and if we get jack quinn as a very good goal scorer. Norlinder could be a very solid agile top 4 d. We get 3 years of huberdeau but he doesn’t throw the team over the edge

Think Caufield fills that goal scorer role. Kotkaniemi's good, but he's no Huberdeau and unlikely to ever be as good. Also why Huberdeau wouldn't re-sign with you guys? Your team and future is looking quite great...

Consider be surprised if Habs actually draft Quinn.

We need more than caufield to score. Again I like huberdeau and yes he’s better than kk but not better than kk and Quinn. Our ‘future’ team is full of guys over the age of 30. Price,Weber, petry, huberdeau, danault,Gallagher,Tatar yet I don’t see that team great or lasting that long. I hope we take Quinn at 9 as he’s a beast

we can have more than 1 goal scorer, and Norlinder is very promising

if we trade Domi it'll be for a #1 LD

Yeah I think he's better than Kotkaniemi and Quinn. I get the juniors hype, but until neither of them proves anything in NHL I'm absolutely taking Huberdeau over those two.

As for my guess, I think MTL is going either with Lundell or Sanderson. Or perhaps Perfetti is he falls to 9th. But that's just my guess.

You have one in Gallagher. Caufield's one as well. Techincally Huberdeau is one too, he scored 30 last year and was scoring close to that this year as well without a good center... He played different line than Barkov that is.

I’d figuratively jump of a bridge if we took either of those two. Kk and Suzuki are our centres of the future, and Sanderson is good but we need some scorers. Huberdeau is great now but he’s gonna be 31 for his new deal and get big coin if we sign him. I also think he is raking up some points being on a very good team.

Check Gallagher’s age. We are building this team through youth. I’d love huberdeau but it doesn’t make sense for this team right now

Gallagher's 29 when his next contract kicks in. There's easily 6 years of a good player in there. Even if the team is building through youth, they need experienced assets as well. And there's nothing wrong with Gallagher whatsoever.

Honestly FLA sucks. They'd absolutely be plummeting down the standings without the star players such as Huberdeau and Barkov. They're making the team what it currently is, but the team isn't going anywhere.

Barkov is very good but that is too much for COL to give up imo. Avs will need high quality ELCs to get them through the upcoming cap crunch

Florida has some fire power up front. Barkov,huberdeau,Hoffman,dadanov... I love Gallagher but look at his style. He goes 100% for his 45 second shift then comes to the bench and we need a defibrillator, he also crashes the net hard and gets hacked, slashed and cross checked. He hasn’t been the most healthy and he’ll have a sharp decline soon. 6 years would be great but I’m hoping for 3. Huberdeau once again is a great player but I don’t see things lining up that way yet for the habs

I'd personally pass on the Leafs trade. Not a huge fan of Ekblad - though he did have an exceptional year - and don't get me wrong, of course I would take him on my team, I just think this price is a bit much.

Their firepower is thinning quite a bit because both Hoffman and Dadonov are expected to walk.

But yeah I have to agree with your opinion regarding the Habs. Glad to see a realistic Habs fan on the site from time to time.

Because Kotkaniemi + 9th are not equal to Huberdeau. Last two years combined Huberdeau has 9th most points in the league, 3rd most of all LWs and 16th most even strength points. He's literally TOP5 player in his position and his contract is probably TOP5 in the world as well.

I get the juniors and draft pick hype, it's the most common thing on this site, but saying Kotkaniemi and 9th overall pick is worth Huberdeau is absolutely hilarious.

Drop Matheson then. He isn't a big part of the deal.

And it's truly amazing how much Habs fans are drooling over their future assets.

What do you believe to be a fair deal for a TOP5 LW in the world with a TOP5 contract of them all to boot if this is so f*cking laughable?

Avs can't get there if it means including both Byram and Newhook. One is okay but not two.

If you swap in Timmins for Byram then it's probably closer.
