Make FLA retain on Stralman and ditch Heponiemi. Your RFAs aren’t worth that much.
If you want to take a chance on Honka, go for it. I wouldn’t

I don’t think you want Stralman imo.

Meh. FLA is clearing cap and Leafs have no reason to overpay for the guy. He can probably be had for a low pick.

Not that Leafs could afford him mind you.

As for that DAL trade, it's puzzling...value is ok for Dallas, but there's no need for Kerfoot. Instead though TOR has a need for Kerfoot.

Not trying to be rude, just telling it like it is: That Florida trade is a massive overpayment from Toronto's end.

The idea is you get Stralman to play defence and let Reilly do what he does. Given that Florida is immediately shedding 25% of the ownership-mandated $10M salary while remaining competitive, I see no reason as to why Toronto should look to make this kind of move for free. Holl and Dermott are the cheap, stable bottom-pairing options Florida is going to want in spades this summer. These aren't non-value pieces. This is also one of those scenarios - because of Florida's ownership demanding that Tallon cut $10M in salary - where Florida cannot retain. Given that the Panthers are higher on Borgstrom and that Toronto is doing Florida quite a few favours here, I'll elect to tell you that your assessment is wrong. The swap of 1st and 2nd round picks evens it out just fine.

Honka's worth the gamble at that price.

No, but he plays defence enough that Reilly doesn't have to worry about babysitting his partner and can return to his 70-point form. It's a short deal that sees Toronto obtain a key asset in Heponiemi. If they aren't/can't trade Marner for a legitimate #1 RHD, these kinds of lateral moves are what they have to settle for.

that may be the idea, except he doesnt do that any more. He isnt good at playing defence. He gets his teeth kicked in when he tries to do that.

Out of curiosity, who was Stralman's partner this season? I don't think either Yandle nor Matheson had great years either.

No, I was genuinely asking. If the Panthers as a whole got caved defensively - and they did - you're looking at Stralman bouncing back to his Tampa form. If Toronto is built similarly to the Lightning, is it not reasonable to think that taking Stralman out of Florida would result in improved numbers?
