Except it's lacking the fair part. At least for the Ducks trade that is.

I fail to see the wisdom in trading a TOP5 player of his position for a TOP4 D and a TOP6 F. Good assets, but imo it becomes a bit of quantity for quality trade. I mean come on, Marner scored last year more points than what Rakell did in last and this year combined.

Comtois is a good prospect though, but they're pretty stacked on LW as it is...

And this is why a Marner deal won't happen.
I can't see any team giving up what the leafs would consider fair value for Marner, but if a team has those assets, they would likely rather keep them.
Dubas wouldn't want to lose a trade for his local guy, but I don't see any team agreeing to a deal that the leafs don't lose.

Because you fail to see that’s exactly what the Leafs need. They fill 3 positions combined for less than Marner is worth. Fills all their needs, a Marner replacement in the top 6 (Obvs not at his level), a top 4D (to play with Rielly) and a cheap Good prospect in an area Of need LW.

Yeah about that...just keeping Marner will remove the need of Rakell...also with Hyman, Mikheyev, Mango, Robertson, Clifford and Engvall and those Russian wingers Barabanov and Korshkov the LW problem is pretty much solved... If anything, they should move LWs away. I mean, Comtois would be a great player for them due to his playing style but they don't necessarily NEED the guy.

That leaves the problem of RD to play with Rielly. Now assuming the 2nd pairing to be Muzzin-Holl and the 3rd pairing to be Sandin-Liljegren, they still have Lehtonen and Dermott to take the role...and if they don't suffice, just sign a free agent like DeMelo for the position.

The point is, the need for that RD is not so big they'd must lose an elite player like Marner to fill it up. That'd be terrible asset management.

Sure but you already got your stars, you just need real good depth to fill it around. Can you imagine if you switched Tavares, Matthews and Marner for just McDavid and Draisaitl? I think Toronto would win it all.

No it isn't, this whole concept makes TO older and slower and not better in anyway

Manson hasn't been good for 2 full seasons and Gudas has never been better than a #4 at best. Rackell is a huge drop off from Marner and Comtois may never be more than a bottom 6 forward which TO has an abundance of. This plan is silly.

Older and slower?

Manson is 28
Rakell is 27
Comtois is 21

Older would be 30+

Marner is 23 and Manson legitimately hasn't been good for 2 full seasons.

I mean I'm not a Leafs fan...I dislike them quite a bit. But I think their depth is quite ok, even with their line of star players. Rarely a team could have such good third line as Robertson-Kerfoot-Kapanen, when their first two lines cost that $40M bucks. But they do need some physical presence, experience and attitude, a good partner for Rielly and a dependable goalie...imo Andersen's a bit fickle. These are their biggest needs. When they get covered, they can be considered an actual contender.

Why on earth they kept Manson over Theodore is a mystery for the ages.

Marner for Rackell and 6OA is more fair. Toronto could really use a prospect like Drysdale.

There are lots of RHD we can get on FA (Brodie, Demelo, Tanev, Hamonic etc...). No point in trading for Manson.
