I mean it's a start, but there's two problems imo.

1) it's a bit quantity for quality. 7 assets from COL over 1 from FLA...these kind of moves pretty much never work, and I do think FLA is running to problems with the contract limits.

2) money. FLA is taking $13M in cap, COL below $6M, and FLA is rumored to look to shed salary instead of taking it in.

Yea. I think Barkov Starts with one of the big guns NOT named Nathan MacKinnon
(Rantanan, Landeskog, Girard, Makar(long shot))

You proposed the trade below in the other AGM thread. Would you rather have Beaucage + 2020 1st instead of Compher + 2021 1st + Weiss?

Bowen Byram
Nazem Kadri
Ian Cole
Alex Beaucage
2020 1st round pick (COL)
2021 2nd round pick (COL)

for

Aleksander Barkov

Kadri goes as Barkov is his replacement.
One of Jost or Compher were the odd man out (Compher it is).
Cole out, Zadorov stays.
Weiss, meh prospect.
1st + 2nd for COL will be more like a 2nd + 3rd.
Byram, unfortunately, is the piece we need to give up

I don't think it would be an issue to put Rantanen on the table, but then Byram and Newhook are both off.

It would make sense to trade Landeskog due to his age, but he's the captain and leader so that's not happening.

Byram and Kadri would obviously be the center-pieces. A stud top pairing LHD like Byram would be a great addition for Florida, especially if they're keen on slashing salary as he'll be on an ELC.

LOL, wait, you were serious?
COL is going to add Barkov to secure a cup, then undo that progress by giving up Rantanen or Makar?

Look at FLA future. Team needs to shed cap for ownership. Team is headed into rebuild and wants picks and prospects

Yes, yes it would be a HUGE issue to give up Rantanen. He’s our second best forward after MacK

C > winger.

It's not ideal though obviously, and would certainly not be where I'd begin negotiations.

I know, but that post involved a LOT of other moves that made taking that kind of load of assets work, at least in some extent.

In their current state however, I can't see either deal working.

If we look the teams in their current status, I think the maximum assets going either way is like 4 to 2. Something like Byram+Kadri/Newhook+Timmins/Burakovsky+1st for Barkov+Weegar, for example.

Yeah if they're shedding cap I doubt they want one of these huge contracts coming back. They'll want a boatload of futures with a high-end prospect like Byram.

This trade sucks for Florida.

Should be Kadri + Byram + Newhook + Timmins for Barkov

Needs to be Kadri + Byram + Newhook at a minimum for Barkov.

I'd probably ask for TImmins too if I'm Florida or a conditional 1st if Barkov re-signs.

Not entirely true.
You could argue that they “finished” their rebuild as they had Barkov, Huberdeau, Yandle, Ekblad, Trocheck, Hoffman and Dadonov (adding Bobrovsky at the end) all in the fold, it just didn’t pan out. Now Hoffman and Dadonov are leaving in UFA, Trocheck is already gone, and ownership wants to reduce payroll.

They start a new rebuild next season

I don’t necessarily agree from COLs perspective.
They already have an elite #1C.
Kadri is a damn good #2C.
Theyve got Compher and Jost who can handle #3C.
Newhook and Bowers are coming and both C.

How many elite/above average scoring wingers does COL locked down for the next 2-3 seasons? Not Kaut. Bura/Namestnikov both RFA but aren’t on Rantanens level. Landeskog is good but crossing the 30yr old threshold soon

Byram and newhook are way easier to move than rantanen, they are amazing prospects but have never played an nhl game.. colorado is trying to win now, adding barkov would make sense but losing rantanen in the process is a horizontal move, centre depth means nothing when you have donskoi or jost on first line wing

I agree. It would be a last resort to include Rantanen. Obviously prospects would be better. And I think if Florida are intent on rebuilding they'd want prospects anyways, rather than a guy with a huge contract.
