Florida - Next Year

Description
My take on Florida. They have a lot of UFA's. Don't know their prospects nearly enough. So I filled out the bottom of the roster with prospects/lower tier players.

Have fun!

I respect the effort, but that package is worth a b prospect and a 2nd at least.

I am a Leafs fan by the way.

The general consensus is that Johnsson is worth a 3rd and a bit. In normal years he would be a 2nd for sure, but the flat cap is killing his value.
I would say Engvall is worth a 4th-5th. Same thing, his 1.25m is hurting his value a bit.

Hence why I went with 2 x 3rd rounders. Leafs shed cap. Florida gets a fringe top 6 forward. Top 9 for sure. And they get a serviceable bottom 6 forward as well.

Value may be off a bit for sure, but it's probably quite close.

There’s been rumblings that FLA want to cut payroll next season. I’d brace yourself if you think they are spending to the cap next season

Wasn't aware of that! They definitely don't need to do the Toronto trade or sign Haula. Or sign Cirelli for that matter... but then their team starts looking badddd. Haha

I’m confident that once Hoffman and Dadonov walk, FLA will be too far into the whole to find replacements for them and they just start a rebuild.

That could very well be. Would be hard to justify a full rebuild with Huberdeau and Barkov since they are ELITE talent. And they just signed Bob for way too much money for way too long. Build around Huberdeau, Barkov, Ekblad, Bob.

Will be fun to see what happens this off season. A lot of teams are in a very strange position. Should make for quite a bit of movement.

Yeah unfortunately for FLA their small window for a deep playoff run ends at the end of this season. Dadonov and Hoffman are over 100pts of offense walking out the door that they won’t be able to replace in this years weaker UFA pool. They definitely will enter next season a weaker team than they entered with this year

Ya that definitely hurts! The team I listed would be a fringe team for sure. Would rely on a few people (such as Johnsson) to take their game to the next level. But it is right against the cap.

Wonder what a sell off looks like... DO they trade Huberdeau and Barkov in those scenarios? I find it odd that Barkov will be a UFA in 2 years. Young UFA!

I have no idea what they do with those guys.
Hypothetically they could try to paste something together (as they’ve got Barkov/Huberdeau/Yandle/Ekblad/Bobrovsky for at least 2 more years) but the supporting cast is just not there to get them past the second round.
