Boeser to Buffalo

Created by: Bnazty96
Team: 2020-21 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2020
Published: Aug. 6, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Eichel has been asking for help and Buffalo has some assets the Canucks need. For Buffalo it gives them 30-45 goals from a healthy Brock Boeser. For Vancouver, Montour with Hughes is a solid pair for us during our contention window the next 5-7 years, Dylan Cozens bolsters our prospect pool to add to Podkolzin, Hoglander, Rafferty and Rathbone. All 5 of them make the team over the next 3 years.

Virtanen for Bean is Vancouver taking advantage of Carolina knowing they can’t protect him in expansion. We also get a Jake back for #shotgunjake.
Juolevi was showcased recently to raise his value as a sweetener to help our cap space.
Markstrom gets more $ on a 1 year deal because it allows us to take Seattle’s power away so they can’t take Demko.
Toffoli is resigned and Hoffman is how we use the cap space we have created to keep our top 6 solid. Matt Martin is brought in due to Ferland likely staying on LTIR for the remainder of his contract, with Beagle and Motte getting Ice time as our top penalty killers, Martin is just there as a body guard for Hughes and Petey.

Cozens will probably be the 2nd line center next year. They desperately need him.

Wouldn’t rush Cozens. Desperation has to wait.

It's not desperation. Cozens is one of the top prospects in Hockey. Was it desperation when Pettersson was given a top 6 role right away??

Well that’s assuming they don’t fine a real stop gap 2c which they probably won’t.

Buffalo fans would be a lot more comfortable not rushing him into a top six role like was done with Mittelstadt. That hurt his confidence and gave him too much responsibility too early. People here talk about Mittelstadt like he is useless, damaged goods, and never going to be anything. The kid was one calendar year removed in high school hockey when he started playing in the NHL. Not only that, he was expected to be the number 2 Center. After spending half of this season in the AHL I think he’s ready to try again next year. He can still be productive, I’m curious which line and who he’ll play with.

You're not getting that kind of return for Brock Boeser, Buffalo need Cozens so not happening.

Agreed I would rather not rush him into a top 6 role unless he is just undeniable upon arrival like many great players are. That being said if he shows up to camp next year and is clearly the 2nd best center on the team and able to compete with men then I would not relegate him to a lesser role just because of his age

Sure he was he was given an opportunity. Vancouver could have forced him to wait for 1 more year before allowing him to enter the league but they felt he was ready and they were right. The same thing could easily happen with Cozens this year only time will tell

Big difference ‘given a top 6 role’ & ‘given an opportunity’.

He waited a full year & played in the SHL. MVP for everything all year long. Beat Forsberg’s scoring record.
