I dont think youre crazy. I think this is the same as all the other BUF posts. Parts/pieces for quality. I like the 2021 1st, but I dont want any of the other pieces.

Pilut is going to the KHL for 2 years. Mittelstadts stock is trending downwards. Idunno, this trade seems weird for both sides

Saad isnt a cap dump. Maybe overpaid by 500k-1mil, but no dump.

Pilut has an out clause for the NHL. If you’re going to give him a one-way NHL contract he will come back.

The guys a grinder. We need a change on the 4th line. Larsson and Girgenson were good 4th liners but they are going to cost around 2 mill each. Carrier is fast, aggressive, Great Penalty Killer, hits EVERYTHING, and is cheap. With Dahlin and Joker coming up next year, we need to save where we can.

oh i am aware, but should a player who went undrafted with 46 games of NHL experience really be in a position to demand a one way deal?

In your Cap situation you are going to need cheap young defensemen. The reason you make the deal is that he can play for you now, and I think he fits in better than you might think. The Sabres misused him, certainly should’ve played him over Bogosian.

I like Carrier. But I have to disagree about Larsson and Girgensons a bit. They are fine fourth line players, but they are not in position to demand $2 million. Teams are not in position to give them that kind of money in a frozen cap league, so I will be very surprised if someone does. They will take what they are offered or go to Europe. If you want to keep either one you offer them the same contract they had last year. Asplund can take one of their spots, and Lazar is cheaper too. They aren’t irreplaceable, so they have to know their actual value.

It just not a smart personnel/locker room move.
Guy pouts and demands a one way deal as if he earned it and you give in? Beta move
I ask you to refer to Puljujarvi or Ho Sang as to how these ice time demands get dealt with.
Hockey is a team sport, you dont let guys like Pilat dictate what type of contracts they get.

If the Jets re-sign Demelo as is being speculated, then they don't have a need for Miller. No thanks from Winnipeg.

That said I still think he would get an NHL contract. The reason you would trade for him is knowing you would play him. He’s an NHL caliber player who got edged out by vets in Buffalo. If not Chicago I think someone else in a cap crunch (and let’s face it, that’s about half the league) Will want to acquire him as a cheap defenseman they can play now.

Hindsight being 20/20 I would rather have left Ennis unprotected. The Sabres only protected him because they intended to trade him to Minnesota. That trade ended up working out better for Buffalo than Minnesota (Scandella played 2 seasons there, Pominville outscored all expectations in 2 years) because they bought out Ennis and Foligno is a grinder for them. However, I don’t know if Vegas would have taken Ennis instead of Ullmark. But at the time I also said protect Ullmark and dare them to take Lehner who was awful at the time. Buffalo lost Lehner for nothing, so if they had left him to Vegas they still would’ve been better off.
