First off: LEave Getzy alone!
Second: Why ya payin' $4.25 mil for a 4th line center? Is this Jim Benning's account? tears of joy

Imagine having the Leafs cap issues then paying $4.25mil for a fourth line centre.
Then trading Marner and not getting immediate help on D (FYI Drysdale - as good as he may be, wont be ready for top pairing minutes day 1)

In the hypothetical scenario that we lose against columbus and end up winning 1OA. I don't think we should try and package it with Marner in what i guess is an attempt to move out a bunch of cap space.
You have saved space by getting rid of Marners 11M and gone and created a 4th line worth almost 10 million dollars. That seems counter productive to me.

If Marner is going to be traded and we had 1OA the best scenario would be to take Laf. He is the most likely to be a sure thing all star player.

I could be talked into trading first overall to move down and try to get drysdale if the right package came along.

Also imagine thinking that Marner (and that contract) nets you 3rd overall, 5th overall, two more 2nds (with 1st clauses) and a quality, NHL ready prospect.

Did you see that in his scenario the leafs won 1OA and ottawa would also be getting the Laf in the trade?

Few notes. Batherson has been playing RW. Don't think he'll be an NHL center.
Also, I can't see Ottawa making that trade. It might work valuewise but still. OTT doesn't really like to pay big salaries, they are still a couple of years away from competing and Marner will be an UFA when he expires. So basically like 3 years of Marner before he walks away. Not worth giving up those assets. I mean, they have a chance to get someone as talented as Marner with 6 years of team control when keeping those picks. I feel like people are somewhat overvaluing Laf. The best player in the draft but scouts are somewhat questioning his ceiling compared to Byfield for example and apparently, some play-in teams don't have Laf at 1st lol.

If Ottawa stays patient, they're a contender in 3 years with a lot of cap space to acquire rentals because of those ELC's

No, admittedly I missed that on my phone screen but some of my points still stand.
Why not use 1st OA or Marner and get D help today?
TOR has one of the worst cap situations and you have them signing a $4+ mil #4C?

I made most of those points in my initial reply. Getting rid of Marners 11M only to spend almost 10M on a 4th line. Counter productive.

use that 4th line cap on a dman (Pietrangelo, Hamonic, Tanev) and send Drysdale down if he's not ready
