Well you implied Nelson is not a 2C, can you back that up ?

I said he's not worth $6M, not even close, and not a 2C on a contending team.

You know, reading comprehension is key to the efficacy of these boards...

You still haven’t backed up why he isn’t worth 6 million lol

Leddy is a clear cap dump at this point 4 straight years of declining numbers, he's also going to cost you to move him.

I agree and one more reason Leddy is 29 and a 2nd to a rebuilding team that 2nd has a lot more value to NJ than Leddy does. If you want get a decent return for him it will be to a playoff team looking for D depth.

Bc 3Cs arent worth $6M...if you're okay with paying a borderline 2C $6M, that's your prerogative. But be prepared to sit in the middle of the NHL for 5-8 years, as the Isles have done.

Tyler bertuzzi isn’t a top 6 winger. Prove me wrong.

At the start of the season I would've agreed with you but he did put up decent numbers without Larkin and Mantha's help. He did beat last seasons point total by one whole assist. Maybe not top 6 yet but not far from it.

What makes him a borderline 2C? How do you evaluate what is a 2C and what isn’t. Goals? Points? Defensive play? Driving offense?

With your logic, I can call Dylan Larkin a 3C just because , and not have to back it up with any facts

He’s already a 2nd line winger. He drives offense at a high level and is decent on the powerplay. I was just making a point to the other guy.

The comparable would be TOR giving CAR a 1st to eat Marleaus 6mil x 1 yr.
Boychuk has 6mil x 2yr = 2 late 1sts using the TOR valuation above

Exactly, and that's likely why you need to add Bellows to get Detroit to bite. That trade was before we thought of a flat cap.

Id rather give just two firsts and keep Bellows

Detroit wouldn't argue with that, though I imagine OP might as they want to top 10 protect the '21 pick.
Value certainly needs to be vastly more than a 1st.

You're right you can do that, but you'd sound dumb.

According to Arthur Staple the Islanders front office doesn't think highly of Bellows. They did not draft him and have no "ties" with management so to speak. Fair or not, I think it's pretty telling that Bellows was left off this expanded bubble roster in favor of: Koivula, Aho, Hickey, Ladd, Komarov, Johnston, Sorokin (counts towards roster spot but ineligible to play), etc.

Personally, I think Bellows could be a 15-20g middle-6 type forward. He can absolute rip the puck but his skating is an issue. If another team thinks more of Kieffer than the Islanders I could totally see him being used to move out a contract.

Leddy is still one of the best skating Dmen in the league and his game is there. Might need a change of scenery but he is nowhere near a cap dump guy

Across the board his advanced stats have plummeted for 4 straight years and his points have dropped as well. He just isn't good and that's never a good sign for a guy who's approaching the end of his prime. Plus the Islanders cap is the worst in the NHL, no one will help them out. Leddy has 4 straight years of decline, makes too much money and the Islanders are desperate to move out money. No one is going to help them. Leddy at best will get a project or a 5th-7th round pick.

And literally zero playoff teams will want to take on 4 million in cap for a guy who has been bad for 4 straight years at the age of 29. Everyone is going to be a little strapped for cash.

Same. Leddy brings back a 2nd or 2 3rds. Somewhere in that range. Isles aren't paying to get rid of him either

Isles can probably expect anywhere from a 2nd to a third for The idea that we’d need to lose assets to shed a puck moving Top 4 defenseman is beyond crazy.

Hell no on Hoffman. He’ll be another Ladd in 2 years, maybe sooner. Eberle at RW1 for now is fine, what we really need is an LW that can move Lee down to the 2nd lone where him, Nelson and Bailey can tear it up again. If Lou’s prudent, he’ll give LW1 to Beau and let the lineup fall into place from there.

No need to make an extravagant trade to dump Boychuk when we can just LTIR him. If an older guy with injury history leaves the playoffs with a head injury, it’s open and shut to get him on LTIR.
