Winning the Lottery

Created by: cperk92
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2020
Published: Aug. 6, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not a Rangers fan, just trying to see what each team would look like if they win the Lottery.

In the Draft, the Rangers select Alexis Lafreniere at 1st Overall and Mavrik Bourque at 23rd Overall.

Henrik Lundqvist retires.

Buyout Marc Staal.

Jesper Fast signs with the New Jersey Devils in Free Agency (2x2.75M)

Not sure on if the value is good for Nylander there. I think it works.

Why chytil 4th line and Bowden 2nd also too much for soderberg. And leaf fans will probably say not enough but I think it’s pretty close to fair

I just changed Howden and Chytil. I had gotten their numbers mixed up.

Do you honestly think that Lundqvist is healthy but still retires and leaves $8.5million on the table?
Not likely

Correct. Either buy him out, and live with the fact that your team (apparently not this guys team, but you get what I'm saying), wasted 15 years of one of the top goalies of this generation,

or,

keep him, and live with the fact that your team (apparently not this guys team, but you get what I'm saying), wasted 15 years of one of the top goalies of this generation.

From things I've read and heard about him, he doesn't want to play anywhere else. It's possible the Rangers approach him and say "hey, we're gonna try to trade you and if we can't, we're gonna buy you out." Rather than play for someone else or have his career end with the Rangers paying him to go away, he simply retires and takes a job in the organization. OR he retires from the NHL and goes back to Sweden to play a year with his brother. I don't think it's totally out of the realm of possibility that he just calls it quits.

That is extremely wishful thinking to think that he is healthy and put up okay numbers this year and just walks away from millions of dollars.
Lundqvist earned his money/that contract, now honor it

His actual salary next year is (4.5m + 1m signing bonus) = 5.5m.
Embarrassingly ride the pine in NYR = 5.5m (he'd be bought out) therefore...
Embarrassing buyout 5.5m (5.5 & 1.5 cap, not sure about salary, 5.5m maybe less)
Unlikely ride the pine on contender = 5.5m
Retire with class, play with bro in Sweden = 3m (2.5m lost)
Career earnings 100m!!!
What a joke! Wasted 15 yrs of his life. I'm pretty sure we did what we could, **** happens ask jumbo Joe. Also, he was very good and very consistent, yet consistently let in at least 1 bad goal a game. Loved Hank and was a big backer of his, but that easily faded after cup loss.

What? They desperately need a 2C. I think they'd gladly do that for a guy who put up 59 points in 70 games last year.

You're missing another option: Buyout ($5.5 mil), plus goes to Sweden to play with his brother ($3 mil)=$3 mil gained.

How is getting paid out $5.5 million embarrassing (To anyone other than the team that buys out the player that has been the face of the franchise for 15 year that all of the sudden thinks he should retire and leave money on the table), and what difference does it make what his career earnings have been? Is there a number that automatically means that money doesn't matter anymore?

"Hey Hank, you've been all class all the way...here, let us be classless and ask you to walk away because we need the cap space! Thanks, and here's a plastic trophy to commemorate your years of service here and Walmart!"

What do you mean "now honor it"? The Rangers should honor the contract? That's not how businesses always work, especially here. He's an extremely expensive backup goaltender. Probably doesn't get any takers on the trade market, and Hank would likely rather not go through the embarrassment of being bought out to end his career. He's done.

He's had 1 good year as a center and multiple mediocre ones as a winger. He is also a RFA and played with Panarin so I'm not sold on his talent.

Lundqvist loves NYC and I just don't see him waving his full NMC to go anywhere else.

I am confident that Rangers will be stuck with till the end of his current deal.

Lol the writing's been on the wall the last 2 years, it's not like they haven't been working with him behind the seen to help him figure it out. He knows his cap simply doesn't fit in NYR or any team, especially now in a flat cap league. Classless, is flapping your lips thinking NYR are simply booting him out of town lol. If you want to get technical, he can retire, curtain call with bro and not cut ties with NYR and simply recoup ++ as ambassador/scout/... with NYR. Simple really...

Buffalo says no because that 2nd this year is a first in many other based on the talent in this draft. We need to restock our forward prospects and the 2 is worth a lot more than just a 2nd.

That same player is a career 42 point per 82 game player. He has gobbled up nearly half of his career points over a 7 year career in 2 outlier seasons. Before this year he was a career 38 per 82 player in over 400 career games. He will not be playing with Panarin in Buffalo to help carry him along and basically double his career production.
