Need to try and explore some options with Hornqvist. There’s no real place for him with loads of top 6 talent and Zucker/Guentzel’s ability to play net front.

His contract is actually quite easy to buy out. If cap becomes an issue you could do that and if you still like him you could re-sign him at a lower price. Might be beneficial.

I think Toronto should trade for Hornqvist. He'd make a perfect fit alongside Nylander & is the exact type of forward that they need. I'd be willing to trade Marner for him. What'd ya say?

You 100% can not do that, it’s called cap circumvention.

No it absolutely isnt. The only buy out you can't then re-sign is a compliance buyout. Remember how cgy bought out stone and then re signed him last off season?

Yes it is. The Stone case was different because of injuries. It comes down to proving collusion. You can’t tell a guy you are buying him out and that then you will re-sign him because that’s collusion to circumvent the cap. The NHL also told teams that you can’t trade a guy to have somebody else buy him out so you can re-sign him, ala Orpik. Also a player once bought out is placed on waivers and can sign with anybody else they want. It all comes down to proving collusion which is very hard to do especially if both parties deny it. Also that’s a lot of work to maybe get caught and still pay the guy on the 1st buyout and pay him on the second one.

“ Though not implicitly stated, it seems reasonable to assume the league’s issue was whether the Capitals intentionally circumvented the salary cap and buyout rules.

When a team buys a player out of his contract, by rule they cannot re-sign him for a full calendar year. Washington traded Orpik and his $5.5 million cap hit to the Colorado Avalanche and then re-signed him after he was bought out for a cap hit of only $1 million. The Caps ultimately walked away with Orpik still on the team, but with an extra $4.5 million in cap space.”
That’s from USA Today
There were similar articles in NBCsports, The Hockey News and a number of other outlets. If I’m wrong I stand corrected, but I even skimmed through the CBA to see if I could find a definitive answer one way or the other and I couldn’t. So in that regards kiss my ass about spewing off because I don’t know how many people on here will actually research stuff.

We're not talking about the Orpik situation Dummkopf. Talking about the Pens buying out Horn and re-singing him.

Avs decline. Hornqvist's age and contract/term aren't very appealing.

Would you entertain offers for McCann instead?
