I don't really bother right now. Last 3 years they've played the same amount of games and Nylander has a whopping 3 points more than him. One of them is a forward in an all out offense team, one of them is a D-man playing in a team with one of the lowest scoring rate in the league. Nylander's contract is good, Klingberg's is dirt cheap... I think there's nothing that makes the other much more valuable, but you seem to think so which makes having a discussion with you pretty pointless.
I do get that TOR doesn't need an yet another offensive RHD, which is a fine reason to not make this trade, yet I'm almost certain this discussion wouldn't have ended up in this sort of consensus...

Klingbergs just been on more of a decline offensively while Nylander had his best offensive year. Also have to take into consideration length on the contracts in my mind, Klings is cheaper now but will probably be demanding at least Nylanders AAV in two years if he played with the Leafs. Honestly, if you asked me a year ago I probably would've said the swap would be good for the Leafs but after the Barrie experiment and Nylander scoring 30, its not close for the Leafs

Much like Klingberg's offense made a step down this year, Nylander's did last year.
Last year Nylander for Klingberg would've been a kings ransom for Toronto, but absolutely terrible for Dallas (I mean who trades a 50 point D to a below 30 point F)...
Imo their performance have been quite equal for the last two years (or actually three). This is why I believe them to be equal value. imo it's just short sighted to say that it's not close now for the Leafs when the situation would've been completely reversed just year before.
Klingberg asking Nylander's money is still pretty cheap, assuming he finds his game again in a more suitable environment. But as I said this deal's biggest problem isn't the players involved but rather the need - Leafs does not need yet another offensive defenseman.
