Description
lmk what y'all think just watched the Blues lose 6-4 to VGK kinda frustrated with the team but just want to play around with some scenarios on here.

If the Blues lose out, and Boston loses their game 3 against Washington, then the Blues will be guaranteed the 24th pick (I think that is how it will work, lots of grey areas in the official draft order). If Blues can draft Mavrik Bourque (29-42-71 in the Q), he is a solid right-handed center who plays a lot like Brayden Point. Not sure, if he would play in the NHL his first season, but he would be a great prospect for the Blues nonetheless. I like the idea of Pietrangelo signing a 1 year deal and then extending for 5 or 6 years, with the flap cap I think it makes sense. The Boeser trade for Schwartz is not bad for either team, Vancouver gets a solid LW in Schwartz who is kinda clutch and a prospect + first rounder. Blues get some youth with Boeser (i thought i'd try to see if getting Boeser would make sense lmk what y'all think). The other trades make sense too, I explained it below but not much to say when you're trading Allen who put up good stats (for all the people saying its the team in front of him, CBJ and NYI have arguably the most shut down group of D-Man, yet Allen is still better in GAA and SV%). These deals will leave STL with ~19M in cap when bringing up Husso (replacing Anderson), Perunovich (replacing Gunn), Kostin (replacing Steen) and Bourque (replacing Barbashev when he gets drafted by SEA). The cap can be used for Pietrangelo $9.2M (5 year extension), Binnington $6M (5 year extension), Thomas $4M (3 year extension to keep him as a RFA), Sanford $2.5M (4 year extension) Kyrou $1.1M (2 year extension) would be about 23M in spending, not sure if the cap will move up to 84.5M but having Faulk picked by SEA instead of Barbashev will really help the cap situation.

I don't think Pietrangelo would take the risk associated with a 1 year deal. He's earned a multi-year deal. What if he gets a bad injury? Would STL still want to put 6 years at over $9m into a player that is 31 and coming off a bad injury? I don't think so. This will be his last big deal and he's earned it - I don't see taking this unnecessary risk.

yeah I agree, it's weird with the whole flat cap even being $82.5 mil would help so much, but I can see him signing a 6 year $9 M AAV, it would work if the Schwartz trade doesn't happen + Dunn gets 3x 3.333 AAV

I'd rather we just sign a stop gap in free agency or add a goalie as a throw in to a bigger trade than do this.

Hard pass from VAN on that trade. No way they’ll take Faulk’s contract

That makes a lot more sense. OP must’ve adjusted the description as I didn’t see that in there or it was posted as additional details of the trade.
