yes, because the best thing to do is to make a big move for the sake of it because a small game series after 4 months off due to a global pandemic turned the game into chaos

As I have been saying all along, should the Leafs lose this qualifying round, regardless as to whether or not they get the 1st overall lottery pick, big changes are coming, and it won't just be one trade.

i'm also big mad about this team but blowing up is incredibly reactionary and not a good idea.

focus on getting a competent rhd guy and getting this team to be able to play tight when needed.

As much as we all wish Marner made ~9.5M, him, Hyman and Matthews is an explosive line and he shouldn't be moved at a discount.

Dermotts been playing unbelievable and whatever the return is wont be worth it.

Kerfoot is finally playing like the centre we thought he'd be.

Personally, Kapanens been a disappointment so far this post season

Did you see 88 turtle there in OT. I think it was OT might have been the 3rd.

in CBJ zone, puck went to the corner...he seen a guy coming and showed no effort to get that puck at all, moved slow as can be.

That was the point I realized CBJ was going to win the game.

no heart at all.

Got to give TOR credit, they played hard. But they just aren't willing to get in the trench and make the plays that win games. A lot of skill and speed and it makes them difficult to play. But if you aren't willing to get dirty and drag it out, then you aren't going to win.

leafs need to move marner/nylander. it's become unavoidable at this point. they need the cap space to improve the team. more scoring wingers isn't going to solve their problems.

I like your point on Kerfoot.

Indeed, he (with Keefe's support I guess) addressed all the issues I had. He's now playing on the PK - and is great at it. He is evolving into a complete 3rd line centre. If the trend continues, I don't see any argument for moving him anymore.

And yeah - the return for Marner would have to be astronomical.

Marner has a MASSIVE signing bonus next season of OVER $14 MIL. The following season of over $9.6 MIL. He ain't going anywhere until those are paid out. I realized the Leafs were in trouble salary-wise when he was given over $8.5 MIL AAV.

Johnsson must be as good as gone.

Kerfoot is actually playing well but is making a lot of money.

Dermott is playing decent as well with only that pinch being a blemish and should sign at least 2 years under $2 MIL.

I can see Clifford coming back on a 'Deslaurier' contract.

Not sure if Dubas can keep Kerfoot, Mikheyev, Johnsson and Kapanen. I think 2 will have to be traded for cap space.

Leafs have a better chance of moving Nylander than Marner because of flat
cap concerns

July 1 signing bonuses for the 2020/21 season were paid out on July 1. The 9.6M signing bonus for next July 1 should be a non-issue - Marner is owed an average of 7M a season for the next 5 years. If he is kept another year until that bonus is paid out he is owed an average of 6.2M a season for the next 4 years. There is little difference.

If the Leafs can find the right deal, as Masai did in trading DeRozan, the Marner should be traded this off-season.

I've liked Kapanen. That explosive speed is so disrupting and setting up that Robby 1-timer was awesome. For me biggest disappointment has to be Souperman. Or maybe Barrie.

Marner had a terrific game. Him and Matthews are such a dynamic duo they should be kept together at all costs. Noway he's getting moved.

I think Johnsson is probably gone. Barrie and Ceci will walk. Clifford is a 50/50.

I think all they really need to do is get someone decent to play with Rielly. I'm thinking Cernak, Severson, or maybe Manson.

Leafs fans need to relax and realize there is still a lot of hockey left in this series. A couple of mental mistakes cost the Leafs the game. My guess is Rielly who is the real leader of the Leafs gets the boys together tonight for a pop and refocus the troops. Last time I checked, you had to win 3 games to win this series so lots of hockey left. Look for a dominant game by the Leafs tomorrow and it is pretty obvious now that Matthews and Marner are starting to really step up their games which means big trouble for Columbus for the rest of the series. Thought Robertson the rocket is getting more explosive each game and great to see him score his first goal in the NHL and what a tremendous story he is for any true hockey fan.

I didn't catch that the signing bonuses were already paid. That changes everything then.
