Ideal Jets 2021

Created by: Whiteout204
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2020
Published: Aug. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Big big moves from WPG, assuming Little goes LTIR.

Established 30+ goal scorer top line wingers do not come cheap. This idea comes from another AGM post which had the right direction, but not enough to get Connor especially with his contract. I think both teams would find this trade painful, which means it might be close?

Let the roasting begin!

WPG
  1. Leddy, Nick
  2. Pulock, Ryan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
NYI gain a very good RHD in Pionk, and a stud LHD prospect in Heinola who can fill in 3rd line minutes already. Would make a great top line pair with Dobson for years. They also shed Leddy's contract for a 2nd.

  1. Heinola, Ville
  2. Pionk, Neal
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:

The is no way the Islanders trade Pulock unless a top line forward is coming back in the deal. It has to be a trade they cant resist. Pulock is the Islanders #1 D.

If we’re trading pulock, one of ehlers/Connor has to be included in the deal.

That's nice value but not what we're looking for. Pulock will be re-signed, so if he's moved it will be for two reasons:

1) We get a legit top-line forward back. If Pulock is a legit top-pairing defenseman, he should be able to return a top-line forward. So if Connor isn't coming back, I don't see a deal worth doing by trading Pulock.
2) Dobson is believed to be able to take on top-pairing minutes, which he is definitely not ready for now but should be in a couple of years after more full-time development.

I think the Jets should be one of the teams that goes after Nick Leddy, he'd be a great fit for your team. Something around a 3rd+ or Andrew Copp would be great.

Colorado would only consider moving both Byram and Newhook if McDavid was coming back with money retained.

Obviously I'm being a little over the top here, but you catch my drift. Byram plus is something we can talk about, but there is zero chance Newhook is included.

Disregarding the trades above, would something along the lines of the following work in your opinion?

Connor & Pionk for Pulock, Leddy and Bode Wilde?

Jets get a solid 1RD, a 2LD stop gap, and a RD prospect.

NYI get a top line LW, a good 1RD to replace Pulock until Dobson is ready, and shed Leddy's salary to focus on the young players they need to keep.

Yeah, I would feel the same way if I was a Colorado fan. Oddly enough, I would prefer to build a package around Newhook++ instead of Byram+. Jets have two really solid LD coming through the pipeline so LD isn't a priority despite Byram's potential.

Agree about the Jets needs. They don't have anyone as good as Byram in the pool, but Samberg and Heinola isn't half bad.

From my perspective, I'd rather move Byram than Newhook. Colorado has lots of good young defensemen but no long term solution for 2C except for Newhook. To me, he is untouchable unless there is an established C coming back.

Ugh, man. That's a damn good offer, I think I'd have to say yes to that. Doesn't save us a lot of dollars really, but that's a really, really good offer for NYI.
