Somewhat conservative approach

Description
I know Rangers fans want the whole roster flipped, but I don't see that happening. I think this is the best case (conservative) scenario. We trade Georgiev RFA rights, one of Staal or Smith, and a 2nd round pick/prospect to Ottawa (who is in need of a goalie for the future) for a low value pick/prospect. This allows the Rangers to sign Tony D and Strome to more comfortable contracts, and also keep depth players Lemiuex and Fast. Fast gets a long term contract similar to Brandon Tanev over in Pittsburgh

Lundqvist isn't being bought out or traded... take a hike with this logic, please.

As far as lines go, if we do keep Fast, Kravstov or Fast are gonna have to figure out the left side. I do believe Kravstov played LW in preseason last year, maybe that was our attempt to groom him there.

You have the flexibility, prospect/players/2 1sts to fix that defence. They should do something

I'll actually threw tf up if re-sign Fast but for 6 years at $3M? Gosh no.

Kind of handcuffed until Smith and Staal contracts are up for 21-22 season. I'm expecting one more year of low-expectations, then the team should be primed and ready for 21-22

Fast is the kind of guy every winning team needs. Quinn just needs to stop putting him in the top six. That's more of the problem than him himself. He was making ~2mil this year and will undoubtedly be seeking a raise. I don't think 3mil is really unfair for a guy that kills penalties and provides energy like he does and can (theoretically) play on all 4 lines in the lineup

I actually like your logic on this. Problem is NYR management will want to accelerate the rebuild in anyway they can. A sweep in the play-in round isn't bad considering NYR was on the outside looking in to begin before the season was put on pause. Momentum aside, pushing for a playoff spot would've been silly.

NYR also has a shot at Lafreniere… could you imagine? Laf-Zib-Pan? Filthy.

You can definitely do something like Boston did. Cap dump + prospect + 1st for LHD

Hey, if you could provide an example that would work for both teams, I'd love to see it : P

I just don't think it'll happen because teams like Ottawa and the Devils will probably be seeking to poach from teams like the Blues and Bruins given their cap situation, but much better cap dump bait than the Rangers could provide. I'd also rather not give up 1st rounders at this stage. We have so many defensive prospects coming up right now. Trouba, Lindgren, Fox, and DeAngelo are all good defensemen. It's really just two defensemen that need upgrading, and with Miller coming up next year and hopefully living up to expectations, that'll make it one defensemen that needs upgrading. And there's still Nils Lundqvist in the shadows. It's just a young defense core that will hopefully continue to get better with time. In my view, the Rangers' biggest problem is at the center ice position and the bottom two lines for the most part. The defense just needs time

They've been pretty smart so far not giving up the future for success now, so I hope they continue that this offseason. I'm not upset with losing, but the sweep was pretty embarrassing haha

And yes the prospect of winning the lottery is crazy... trying to pretend we don't win to manage expectations again

I originally proposed Lundkvist + Strome + Car 1st for Lindholm. Then use a 2nd to get rid of Smith
