They should trade DeBrincat before Nylander if DeBrincat is just going to end up on the third line.

I disagree. The best teams can roll 3 scoring lines. Cheers though!

If you have Nylander in DeBrincats place they could still run three scoring lines. Just not paying 6.4 for a third line winger (who really should be playing with Kane for maximum efficiency)

You could also trade DeBrincat for a core piece, not worry about his 10 million QO at the end of his contract, and have even more space for future contracts.

Totally agree, just over Nylander at this point

After only one year? I think it was a pretty decent one, obviously not the best season, but most people wanted him in the AHL.

There's certainly nuance to this. His $10M QO doesn't mean he's guaranteed $10M. There isn't any threat of an offersheet. They'd negotiate a deal and if not. I know Capfriendly doesn't have him arbitration eligible yet, but I think that's because he hasn't yet qualified...but soon will and certainly before this deal is up, BUT just let him go to arbitration. If arbitration rules that the QO can't waiver......Then I guess he's a UFA, but I don't think Nylander can hold Debrincat's jock strap when it comes to contributions on the ice. I don't dislike Nylander like I did at the beginning of the season, but even when Debrincat isn't on the score sheet he contributes on many other ways.

I'm listening when it comes to a different core piece. It all depends on what that other core piece is. Debrincat has scored 41 goals in a season. That's not a small feat by any stretch.

Maybe this is just me, but between nylander and debrincat, it feels like a question of need. Debrincat gives you the goals, assuming he’s playing with the right line mates. As for nylander, there is a lot of promise. However, his playing style usually belongs in the top six. While is wasn’t a terrible season, I certainly don’t trust him in the top six. If trading nylander helped get a us a young goaltender (although honestly I’m not sold on georgiev yet either), I mean, you gotta do what’s best for the whole don’t ya?
