Pesce for Laine

Created by: Hurricanes_WPG
Team: 2021-22 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2020
Published: Aug. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Carolina side of Jets with 1OA. As you can see, the cap doesn't really work out after signing Hamilton and Svech. This even assumes that the cap goes up to 85 MM for the 2021-22 season, a dubious assumption.

Perhaps the Canes 2020 first round pick could make this roster, especially at forward

Svech isn't getting $9.1M AAV on a deal that takes him straight to UFA LMFAO! Aho, a better player than him, only managed to get $8.4M on that type of deal. If we're talking a 7-8 year deal, that AAV is absolutely fair, but not at 5 years!

I wasn't really caring about the years on the contracts when I made this.... that would work much better if it were an 8 year contract, you're right

There are tons of ways to make this work. None of those guys need to be on the roster when it comes time to for Seattle to select a player.

I think it's already confirmed that the cap will be flat for next few years to even out the lost revenue.

No thanks from Winnipeg. As much as I like Pesce, the Jets aren't giving up Laine for him.

Pesce being a key piece in a laine deal doesn’t work in my opinion with the abundance of ufa rhd, if Carolina wants a laine type why not buy hall, or keep the certainty of a pesce longterm contract. Unless pesce is head and shoulders above the ufa class I wouldn’t make the move, the key part In a laine scenario needs to be able to push scheifele for 1c

I don't think that too many elite RHD will actually make it to UFA, and even if they do, a guy like Pietrangelo would command 9-10 MM, instead of Pesce's 4MM. A guy that can compete for 1C with Scheifele would cost Winnipeg more than Laine, because of the value of centres compared to wingers. Also, I believe Laine is better and cheaper than Hall

Possibly in raw skill, but Aho kills penalties, and he plays centre. Those two things make him more valuable, even if he is not better, which may or may not be true

My guess is that SEA takes one of Fleury, Bean, Geekie or Foegele.
