This was clearly lots of work and I don’t want to **** on it.
But Buffalo would not have to protect Dahlin and possibly Jokiharju. So deff go 7-3

I don't think the Flyers would mind losing JVR just because of the cap hit on him.

Calgary: 7-3
Forwards: Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Lucic (lol), Lindholm, Dube
Defense: Hanifin, Andersson, Kylington
Goalie: Rittich
Top Players Left: Bennett, Mangiapane, Giordano, Brodie, Hamonic, Valimaki, Talbot
Result: Flames Trade 24th Overall Pick and a 2022 1st Round Pick to Protect Mangiapane, Giordano, and Valimaki
Seattle Selects: TJ Brodie

If the expansion draft is this fall, Calgary wouldn't have to protect Valimaki and would need to protect Giordano because of his NTC. TJ Brodie is a UFA after this season so why would Seattle want draft him? Mangiapane is highly regarded in Calgary as well. I would project that he's part of the 7 forwards protected in the draft and definitely over Dube. Kylington would be exposed.

My expansion protection would be:

Calgary: 7-3
Forwards: Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund (NTC), Lucic (NTC), Lindholm, Mangiapane
Defense: Hanifin, Andersson, Giordano
Goalie: Rittich
Top Players Left: Brodie (UFA), Hamonic (UFA) Talbot (UFA) Bennett, Dube.

I'm sure that the Flames would ask Lucic to waive his NTC so they could protect Bennett or just simply buy him out. Giving up two first rounders is way too much for any team to give up.

So my question is who would you take now.

Lmao I saw this.
Obvious copy paste error.

Also COL probably protects Compher and maybe exposes Donskoi instead. Unless they plan on resigning Namestnikov, in which case they protect him

If Seattle selected Josh Anderson the Avs will celebrate. This was a lot of work, so thanks for doing it. But the player COL is going to lose is going to come from Compher, Jost, Nichushkin, Donskoi (2 of this group will be protected), Graves, Zadorov, but Graves will get protected if EJ waives and Francouz.

A. Lundestrom isn't eligible if it was this year, and B. I'd probably protect Heinen over Rico Jones and Lundestrom, C. The ducks have 6 OA, not 11, and D. Even if they did have 11, there is no way in hell they'd give that up to protect anybody, or dump anyone they have lol

Fischer>>>>>>>>>>Crouse+didn't Dineen just sign like last summer lol

I'd protect Kase over Coyle Bjork Ritchie and maybe Debrusk, and they probably wouldn't protect Krug bc he's a pending UFA and they probably won't bring him back

I'd protect Saad over anybody not named Debrincat (and Koekkoek+Murphy would be my d men over Keith and CDH)

Tanev and Sheary would literally be the last 2 forwards on the roster other than maybe Marleau that I'd protect

Copp and Demelo should be protected (even if he's a pending UFA, he is simply the best d man on the team.) And I belive Berdin is not eligible either

Not sure on if Gavrikov is available as he was a rookie last year just like Merzlinkins was... so we might be able to keep out 2nd. I also think Columbus would protect Anderson, Nyquist and Dubinsky(NMC) and leave Murray as available.

If the expansion draft was this year I don't think MN gives Spurgeon that contract. and/or one of Brodin/Dumba is traded during the season.

Mad props to you for trying to make sense of all this!

Montreal: 7-3
Forwards: Drouin, Tatar, Gallagher, Domi, Danault, Lehkonen, Kotkaniemi
Defense: Weber, Petry, Mete
Goalie: Price
Top Players Left: Byron, Armia, Evans, Vejdemo, Chiarot, Fleury
Result: Seattle Selects: Ben Chiarot

Right now, I think most Habs fans would classify Juulsen in the "Top Players Left" and Chiarot would be protected over Mete (unless they protect Fleury or Juulsen)

If It was this year, Svech would be exempt. The expansion draft would be tougher but I can imagine we would ask Jordan to waive and expose Trocheck.

I like the grit that Ritchie brings and I think that Studnicka takes Kase's spot next year. Just personal preference

That being said, I'm willing to bet that SEA takes Subban
