This version of Tampa is based on Johnson waiving, and yes I know he has an ntc. Tampa makes their decision on the 4 dmen they will protect by trading Foote in this scenario. It means running 21 to start instead of the 22 I usually have them at, but provides a stronger defense and still has solid depth on the offense. Ducks fans let me know what you think about the Rakell trade, as I wasn't sure if it was balanced or not. Thanks.

I fell in love with Rakell at the 2018 All-Star Weekend. If Foote doesn't make the team out of camp, I want us to trade him while his value is highest. Killing two birds with this one trade stone would be awesome.

I think if this happens, we should look at trading Sergachev for a better RHD. Rutta and Bogosian can both be carried by Hedman, but let's be honest. That's not a good right side at all. If Hedman or Sergachev goes down with an injury, this team gets exposed real fast.

Considering that Shattenkirk will be getting 6M from the Ranger's next year maybe he would be willing to do one more 1 year small deal with Tampa. Doesn't seem likely but you never know.

Yeah, I'm working on another agm where Tampa keeps Shattenkirk and Foote but moves Cernak in the Rakell trade instead.

I think Serg and Cirelli are pretty untouchable. I could see Serg being moved back to the right with Hedman though and having a strong top 4, with a weaker 3rd pairing.

I often forget Sergachev has RD experience. Obviously he's better on the left side, but he is capable of playing the right side. And he's lethal with Hedman.

Those Sergachev and Cirelli contracts are light. You can hope.

Not light at all. Tampa bridges their rfa's, and these numbers are very much in line. Cirelli won't be getting much more than any of Killorn, Johnson or Palat took in terms of cap % on their bridges, which was just under 5%. Cirelli may get just over 4, but 4.25 would be the high end.

Sergachev at 4.5 is also very reasonable. It's in the same range as his closest comparables, McAvoy and Werenski, took on their bridges. Tampa rfa's have also taken slightly less historically, so 4.5 compared to 4.9 or 5 is hardly out of the question. Adding in the flat cap, which will likely result in many rfa's and ufas taking less money and/or shorter deals, only further strengthens Tampa's position with them. Finally, both players know how the structure works in Tampa with elc-bridge-long term deal. Both are much more likely to continue this as it keeps a top 5 team together and competing for Cups for awhile. There's a lot of precedent in Tampa with this situation, so yeah, not really light at all with their numbers. Tampa isn't losing either, but could end up losing Cernak depending on different factors.

Yeah, if Tampa has to have a lesser 3rd pair but has Hedman-Serg and McD-Cernak as their top 4, I think they'll be alright. They could still potentially have Bogo or Rutta as the 3RD and then a cheap but serviceable 3LD perhaps. Cal Foote really is the question mark, as Tampa has refused to trade him at least twice before, and have given him plenty of time to get ready in the A. He'll likely be needed to start next year, and if he's not in their future plans for whatever reason then he needs to be traded for good value while he still has some. Tampa also has to decide which 4 dmen to protect in the ED, and unless they plan on exposing McD(which would be a mistake imo) they'll have to choose between Cernak or Foote as the 4th. Of course, as with Vegas, I'm sure Tampa can offer some picks or prospects to have Seattle take the player they want in order to protect an extra dman or F if needed.

If Foote doesn't make the team out of camp, I want him traded.

I know for a fact that Nolan Foote was in Tampa, so the team could see him train, just a week before he got traded. So obviously there was something about him that TBL didn't like.
I hope Cal isn't the same way.

You have zero idea what Johnson will do, just like the rest of us. Johnson is likely traded this offseason to go to a better team in a situation that he has more control over.

Yeah I thought N. Foote was a good pick, and he seemed pretty good at the u20 wjc. I didnt think they'd trade him but I understand it, since he's 2-3 years from possibly being a high impact player for Tampa. C. Foote, on the other hand, should be ready to at least get 3rd pairing or sheltered minutes starting next year, as it will be his d+4 season. Even given that dmen usually take longer to develop, for a mid 1st round pick it's time to make the jump to the NHL, if he's going to with Tampa.

Cooper historically has given young defensemen sheltered minutes. He likes to ease them into the big league, which can be a good thing, however with Sergachev it kinda slowed his development for a little bit. But now obviously Sergachev has emerged as a fantastic player.

That being said, Shattenkirk probably isn't coming back. He's earned a raise. I think Cooper should try playing Foote with Hedman. Why not learn from the best? Plus it lets us keep Mac and Drago (Cernak) together.

I'd like to see this blue line next year if Sergachev is gone:
Hedman - Foote
McDonagh - Cernak
Coburn - Rutta/Bogosian/Witkowski/Free Agent

If Sergachev stays, just scratch Coburn I guess? IDK

Yeah, Coburn has to be moved after this year. 1.7 wouldn't usually be that bad of a hit, but with Tampa's cap situation, not the case, especially for a guy who will likely be the #7 at best. I think he could waive, especially if he's figured out or is told he won't be seeing the ice much next year. Worst case is they buy him out and save a net of 400k after paying his replacement 700k. I just can't see them trading Sergachev after the progression he has had. Sure, he still makes some mistakes, but for being only 21 he has a very high ceiling. I think he is the top priority among players that Tampa has to sign this offseason. A d corp of Hedman, McD, Serg, Cernak and hopefully Foote for the next 4 or 5 years gives Tampa a strong foundation in that area to remain a top contender.
