Thats way too much... Realistically, it would take a young nhl established player, a solid prospect and two first with one being at the very least top 15. I made an offer to WPG sooner : Domi, Nurse (acquired for Tatar), 2020 and 2021 first plus a second. Thats fair and realistic. When I say fair it remains an overpayment but thats what itd take.

Lol, the trade I proposed seemed rather low to me. But then, how do you value a guy who might be the best prospect since McDavid...
I think the interesting thing is that MTL might be one of the best placed teams to pull this stunt. They have a young core, a plethora of prospects and picks, and some questions as to what exactly they are -- so that a team might want to gamble and grab those picks.

Why didn't you just add Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Drouin, Danault, Gallagher, Weber, Petry and Price as well! May as well send the Bell Centre to them as well. Oh and all 24 of our previous cup wins.

Curious if you actually believe it's a gross overpay?

The way I see it; If you believe Lafrenière is a 100pts+ player:
Domi = 60pts (middle-6 forward)
Caufield = A prospect
Strubble = B prospect
2nd = 20% chance to be an NHL player
2020 1st -- (let's say it's pick 16)
2021 and 2022 -- Do you not think MTL will make the playoffs?

I do that trade every day of the week.

Honestly, any teams winning the first pick would trade it for this package... The question is wether or not a team might be willing to trade it for multiple piece at a price that would be of course closer to the real value of the pick. Keep in mind that Alexis is one player with the potential of having 90-100 pts season. You dont trade a 60-70 pts C, a top 3-5 prospect in the league who might score 40 goals someday as well as 3 first rounder which could all turn out to be lottery picks...

Thats because you dont see the real value of the pieces you traded. The odds of having two of those first round picks including Caufield turning into 70pts players are great since you traded so much of them... Then you add Domi and Struble.

But lets just say this, if the teams that wins it dont even think about trading the pick, a trade isnt happening because of the insane amount of pieces that would be ask. BUT if a team such as WPG who have plenty of elite wingers or EDM who needs depth and defense way more than adding another franchise player, wins it, then they might consider a trade at a fair price (which would be pretty high still but not as insane as your deal)

Lafreniere is a very good player there is no denying that however don't you think it is a little early to say he will score 100+ points. Just look back at every player who finished 1st in points in the Q since 2013 not many have even hit the NHL and those that did are not even close to being 100+ point players and that include Conner Garland who had back to back 128 and 129 point seasons in the Q. Lafreniere could become the next Crosby or he could become the next Conner Garland.

Respectfully disagree,
I think there's an exponential value to a franchise prospect like Lafrenière. Even if all those picks + Caufield turn out well, so that's 5 players (including the 2nd round pick) at 70+ pts, I'd still prefer Lafrenière at 100pts potential. Also, that represents one contract for one player; here's hoping that Lafrenière turns out into one of those players you don't ever question how much their cap hit is.

If Lafrenière doesn't live up to this potential, MTL at least has the current core of its team invested in two 20yrs old centres + the current prospect pool. I think the team can survive such a hit.
I think this team has depth -- it's been that way for the last decade -- but how long have we been waiting for a bonafide elite skilled player. It feels like they're one piece away from being competitive, albeit a big piece is needed.

Well this is where we'll disagree lol. I see him as a Huberdeau-Rantanan type player with a potentially higher ceiling.
I get your point, and I acknowledge the risk involved, but I'd still pull the trigger on it.
C'mon man, Laffy is at least more promising than overager Conor Garland!

Actually it is 2 BIG pieces needed to be competitive. 1 LHD cause none of Chairot, Mete, Kulak or possibly even Romanov are going to fill that role and an elite game changing Winger to fill out the top 3

Ok if you don't like the Garland comparison how about Drouin was thought to be Elite game changing winger with similar point totals to Lafreniere and now 6 years later we he is not even close to the hype he was receiving then.

The point is you cannot give up that much future for even a franchise player. Perfect example is Lindros which by the way the Flyers package is pretty close to the package your offering. Do you think the Flyers would undo that trade if they could and just Keep Forsberg? I think it is irresponsible to do that type of trade. The Flyers never won a cup with Lindros and the Avs/Nordiques won 2 with Forsberg. At the time Lindros was a Generational tallent and Forsberg wasn't much like Lafreniere and Caufiled in this proposal.

True... but what are the odds of that happening again, Peter Forsbergs don't fall out of trees. (There's a debate to be had there -- PHI didn't immediately lose the Lindros trade)
Besides, If anyone is looking like Forsberg, it's Laffy!

Caufield could be forsberg good and Lafreniere not so much but even if both end up hitting their potential you basically traded Laine ++++ for McDavid that's quite the payment for such a small gap.

If the penguins get 1OA they aren't giving it up.
They will start to build a young core with it. Laf, Jake, Marino, Pettersson, Poulin, Hallander.

They will eventually need to find help down the middle but not yet.
