I've had some good discussion with Leafs fans on here. Every fan base has bad takes (the Wild fan base has many as facebook/twitter have shown) the problem is there's so many of Leafs fans on here than other fan bases that there's more bad takes by correlation.

It's definitely a weird trade. Moving Marner for a 30 year old player with 7 years of term is awfully dumb and then Minnesota also giving up a 1st just seems odd.

Trade value (depending on draft order) seems about right.

I love Spurgeon, I think he is pound for pound the best Dman in the league. But his age and term are an issue. I am also very high on Dermott. Don’t even ask me why so many leafs fans try to trade him. He is a perfect 2 way defender for our system.

The issue.... Wild need a centre!!!! Marner doesn’t play centre.

Leafs should not be trading young talent for old talent.

Leafs got muzzin for 2 b prospects and a mid 1st then signed him to a better deal than spurgeon.

If marner is going out I would expect a return of a young rhd and a prospect. A player like pulock or Carlo.

Those players don’t get you a 1c is the issue. 1c trades rarely happen for that reason.

Leafs won't be trading Marner for a Spurgeon just to get a 3.5m cap saving....Yea the 1st is nice. We have seen some poor signings of aging RHD lately. Let's have this discussion in 2027 and see how well the Spurgeon contract holds up.
