Tbh, I think this can work for the Habs without having to sacrifice too much of the future and having a good cap space. I think people want teams to overpay for Laf but the thing is that many teams, if they win the lottery, won’t have a lot of cap space left to sign their own players and will struggle to sign Laf later on

Our 4 rfa's will cost 5-5.5 million, if Little is healthy still have 10 million in cap space this off season with a roster of 18. If Little is on LTIR over 15 million to fill 5 spots and 21 Million coming of the books next season, cap space is not an issue for us.

If mtl acquires lafreniere, it’s going to hurt, and be questionable if they do it or not, it’s not going to be random pieces that don’t quite fit, it’s going to be a guy that they had designs on having longterm. Names like kk, or Suzuki or Romanov, one of those names in the mix along with a domi, or Tatar or drouin, and depending on team another piece plus some draftpicks. Mtl making the phone call to acquire for the pick so all the leverage with team with pick. Imo

I thought that between every lottery teams, you guys and TOR were the teams that needed him the least... I mean, you already have 4 elite wingers... Adding an2C, some D and solid prospects would be much better for you imo

I don't think any team would pass on him at all given the circumstances. He will definitely be better then all 4 of them in a year, and wouldn't be shocked if he is better than all of them right away.
Blake Wheeler is ageing and is not the same player he used to be anymore.
Kyle Connor to be perfectly honest is very overrated and doesn't to a whole lot else other then score tap ins that Scheifele does all the work for.
Laine is improving a little bit but Laf is already a way better all around player.
Ehlers is our best right now and he is truly elite.

So I would rather get Laf and trade one of Wheeler, Connor, or Laine.

No one is going to take Wheelers contract so I would rather take the franchise altering talent and trade Connor preferably or Laine if we really had too.
