Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2020

Description
It seems very unlikely that the Leafs will be able to sign DeMelo unless they give up depth pieces (ex. Engvall, Kerfoot, Kapanen) or one of the big 4 (Marner most likely).

What are Kerfoot and Engvall worth in your opinion?
I think they're both a good fit for the Jets.

I believe all signs point to making cap space in some way.

I wouldn't be surprised if Johnsson and Kapanen were moved out.

Another Demelo to Toronto, can someone please exkain this fascination with adding Demelo as a top pair defender and paying him 3x more than Dermott?

That's peanuts, I'd do that without question.

DeMelo is a hard core stay at home defenseman. He's exactly the type of guy that would be great with Rielly and he's a lot cheaper than the other good options like TJ Brodie.

Don't listen to that guy. He's not even a Leafs fan. I wouldn't move Engvall his contract is a steal (did you see him last night?).

Kerfoot has also been playing like a stud and is great defensively I wouldn't want to move him either.

Honestly I think the guy Toronto should move is Marner rather than sacking all their depth.

Yeah I don't think Toronto should move either of them, think they're both good fits for the Jets which is why I asked, Kerfoot is a 3C who could probably be a low end 2C or at least move up when needed which is something the Jets dont have and Engvall has size and can skate, looks like a solid bottom 6 player which is another thing they need.

Yeah not unless they move out a guy they wouldn't want to move out.

TBH if I was the GM of the Leafs I'd shop Marner to see what the return on him would be. If the right package came along I'd probably move him. That way we could have cap space to upgrade the D core. It's too weak especially if Rielly or Muzzin get injured.

We clearly have different opinions on Demelo.

Think he just showed that it could be done. Does Toronto want to? I’m not sure.

No you're right I'm just trolling. It's just gonna be really hard if the only guy that leaves is Johnsson. It certainly helps, but moving someone else like Marner would be huge. I honestly think the Leafs need to get rid of one of those crazy expensive contracts if they want a more balanced roster. I could see Marner, Tavares or Nylander getting moved out for sure. Not gonna be easy though.

Tavares has a NMC.

Nylander's contract is very good value.

I think Marner is the odd man out.

Forgot about Tavares' NMC. And I definitely think Marner is way more likely to go as opposed to Nylaner too. Makes more sense.
