Pens Lose Lottery and Move Core Piece WIP

Created by: PensGM2019
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2020
Published: Aug. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pens Lose Lottery and Move Core Piece (WIP):
1. So it’s a sad day and the Pens don’t win the Alex L lottery. This leads to Pittsburgh picking 15th in the 2020 draft. To move up in the draft Pittsburgh trades pick 15 and Murray rights to Ottawa for No. 5 overall. At No. 5 overall Pittsburgh drafts Cole Perfetti (C)
2. Next Order of business is trading Jack Johnson. In this example I move JJ out to Detroit and prospect for 4th 2020 pick.
3. Next Order of business is the core player move of Kris Letang. This move will create a little more cap for the Pens and solidify the top two lines. In this move we will acquire William Nylander. After this move we will have solidified three lines:
a. Line 1: Zucker – Crosby – Nylander
b. Line 2: Jake – Malkin – Rust
c. Line 4: ZAR – Teddy – Tanev
4. Next step is to assess the DP post moves thus far:
a. DP 1: Dumo – Marino
b. DP 2: Pettersson – Ruhwedel
c. With only having two pairings the first move we make is bringing up POJ. He will be our 7th D man.
5. Our next move will be acquiring a top D man to replace Kris Letang. In this case we will sign Alex Pietrangelo for $7M x 5 years. After this move our DP will look like this:
a. DP 1: Dumo – Pietrangelo
b. DP 2: Marino – Pettersson
c. DP 3: Ruhwedel – X
d. Extra: POJ
6. Our next move is to address the goalie situation, in this case we will do the following two transactions:
a. Call Casey Desmith up from AHL to be Goalie No. 2
b. Resign Tristan Jarry to a $3.5M x 4 year deal as No. 1
7. For our extra two forwards I will do the following:
a. Call up Sam Poulin from AHL
b. Resign Lafferty to $850k x 2 years
8. For moving Nick Bjustad I have sent him to Calgary in exchange for Sam Bennett.
9. The forward move will come via free agency:
a. Finding a center for 3C, here I sign Haula for $3M x 3 years
10. The final move will be resigning Rikkola as D for $870k x 2 years.
Please note this is a work in progress and I will discuss with a message board I am on and change as things are discussed.

I believe if the Pens lose the 2nd draft lotto Minnesota gets their pick. So it’s AL or bust.
Ottawa isn’t going to trade for a goaltender. Our best bet for Murray is a trade with Carolina or Chicago.
I doubt the Pens re-sign Riikola. For some reason the coaches don’t trust him.

leafs aren't trading a 24 year old first liner on a bargain contract for a 34 year old defenseman who will start declining. Stop with this non sense

No the Pens have the option to defer the pick to 2021 which they will do as they will still pick 15th if they lose.
Who does Chicago / Carolina give up in this example?
They like Rikola issue is he has struggled with adapting to NA rink. it appears though once he fixes that they love him.

That is a trade that may work. We could use Kappy on Line with Sid. Johnson can take line 3 duties. Salaries balance out for most part.

OTT is still rebuilding, they don't need a struggling goalie.

Problem is the Leaf's cap issues so I think they just pass all together even though they really need a RD. In the spirit of this arm chair:

Kap, Johnson, and rights to Dermott for Letang and right to Murray and Simon??? no picks involved due to lack of from both sides and leaf's trade Anderson before

Murray is nowhere near enough to move up 10 spots.

OTT decline very very quickly
