Mikhey on 4th line Holl as 3rd pair

Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 9, 2020
Published: Aug. 9, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mikhey isn't playing that great and should be given the Domi treatment. Added bonus is with both Mikhey and Domi pending RFA's their 4th line demotion will effect their salary demands.

As for Holl, despite all the praise he gets on this site, he is a weak link defensively...I'd say worse than Ceci. Holl is not Top 4 material and if the Leafs continue to pencil him in as the future 2nd pair guy, than the team is asking for disaster.

I don't think one game on the 4th line will effect Mikheyev's next deal at all.

True...but he isn't preforming like a top 6 forward so Keefe should stop awarding him the minutes.

Holl looked fine... except when paired with Marincin. They are too slow to be paired together.

I would pencil Dermott and liljegren in the top 4 in the future.

Maybe Mikheyev should be dropped to the 4th line idk but Clifford definitely shouldn't be on the 3rd line.

Keefe should be utilize Clifford as he was promised. Cliff was brought in to bring energy and bumps heads and punish the other teams DCore. I don't see Clifford being resigned if Keefe doesn't value his role.

I've said this many times; Holl's defensive liability is in direct cause for 1 goal against per game.

So which goal against was his fault in game 2?

My point is that the leafs have allowed 9 goals in 14 periods of hockey. One of them was an empty netter. Defensively I think we have played well.

Putting Holl on a pairing with Marincin is setting them both up for disaster. I really do wish that Sandin was in to pair with him.

As usual everything you say is wrong and just dumb. Mikheyev hasn't scored but he's played well. Holl has been great in these playoffs. A very good top 4 guy. Ceci has been the absolute worst player on the ice every night. But when you have no idea how hockey works and you look down and see 1 goal for Ceci a unintelligent person will say that means he's been better. He hasn't and you are the worst

Both are good skaters not sure where this Holl and Marincin are slow stuff is coming from. Muzzin is slow, Holl is above average and Marincin is pretty fast for a guy who's 6'5" maybe a little slow between the ears sometimes but physically a good skater.

All the goals Columbus has scored have come off turnovers in the offensive zone usually when a defenceman pinches and the high forward isn't far enough back to support when the pinch fails. Yes the defence deserves some blame for a failed pinch but so does the forwards who are not covering high. JT made the bad decision that led to the OT winner in game 3. Kap has failed to get back on a few occasions. To me that is the bigger problem and one that can be corrected. The defence has been pretty good in their own zone and breaking up the cycle. Cut out the turnovers and Columbus doesn't have enough fire power to do any damage.
GenXHockey liked this.

They are slow, especially when stopping and starting/changing direction. Holl is fine once he gets up to speed just not a lot of acceleration.

A player like Sandin or Dermott are much more agile and have the overall speed to back check a rush.

I disagree, maybe compared to the rest of the team but that is only because TO has a lot of great skaters on the team. Holl doesn't get beat around the corner much if at all. Same with Marty, Marty usually makes a bad mistake that costs him, skating isn't his problem

They aren’t bad skaters, but neither one of them are fast skaters, I’m not talking about getting beat when they are in position I am talking about tracking a play down when they do get beat.

The other issue is Holl being the offensive Dman on the line. I think he takes more risks knowing that in that pairing that is his role.

Pair him with Sandin and I think he plays a heavier defensive role and doesn’t pinch or jump up as much.

Sandin has the agility and foot speed to track players down if he gets beat.

"what do you get when you cross overrated players with a blind faith delusional fanbase which has been waiting for 52 years as other fans treat them like trash ? do you know what you get ? I'll tell you get what you get, you get what you freaking deserve!!!"

as said by the Joker.

Pinching is the Leafs system though, the high forward needs to be more aware though. To be honest Though if Holl is the #6, the defence is much better. Hopefully Liljegren and Lehtonen can be much better next season.

I thought liljegren was very good this season. May not have showed on the stats but his play was actually quite good.

I would say when muzzin-Holl is our third pair, our defence has arrived.

Guess who screwed up big time for the insurance goal; 2-0 goal by Foudy. Look at that, it's my old "one goal against" friend Holl, leaving his coverage to make a bad line change.

I called it a couple days ago, Foligno will score a goal.
