Fun one take 2

Created by: sabresparaavida
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 9, 2020
Published: Aug. 9, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A fun trade for point, assumes that TBLs players don't waive their NTCs. They get 2 high end prospects, and some cap relief. The sabres fix their center spine, though they mortgage the future a bit. Cozens should step into Tampa Bay and play right away.

Sucks when you make trades and sign players you cannot make trades the following year to free up more space. I hate that rule.

Pass. Cozens will be the perfect 2C and Rossi or Raymond will make us a more complete and cap complaint team.

I dont think Tampa will do that. But you dont pass on Point. He is now over a PPG player, and he is very defensively sound.

Doesn't matter tho. Those pieces are just fine and the cap space won't be there regardless.

Who has 2 more years and a QO of 9m that he can sign and walk into ufa.

I love point and he would be great on buffalo but Cozens is an extremely good player as well and I have no doubt he will be a terrific nhler.

I think it serves buffalos needs better to keep both him and the pick.

That is pure speculation. No one knows this yet. I'll take the sure thing in Point. Eichel and Point down the middle with Dahlin on the blueline is how you start creating a dynasty. Eichel and Point would only be worse than McDavid and Draisaitl.

It’s not speculation... I have watched him play... live, many times. He is good. This trade doesn’t fit buffalos long term plans.

In a vacuum it’s a great trade for buffalo but jokiharju and Dahlin will need some space.

It is still speculation. He has not done anything at the NHL level. Mittelstadt was suppose to be really really good too. 1 year after the draft, everyone was saying we got a steal with Mittelstadt at 8 overall.

Not me.... I also played shinny with point, said he was going to be great before he was drafted. Another great player from Calgary is Matt Phillips, he’s small and very light. Plays like Johnny hockey though. Played some shinny with him too, he’s untouchable.

The only thing that would worry me about either point or cozens in buffalo is the supporting cast.

I think buffalo has the players to fill out that middle 6 now.

I do dynasty hockey, Point was someone I drafted for all my farm teams/prospect teams. I was a big fan. I am not sold yet on our 2nd line yet. If the Sabres are going to have any shot next year for a big bump on the standings, we still need two 2nd line forwards. Cozens should be nowhere near the 2nd line next year. Not sure if they will make enough moves in the offseason to allow Cozens to play on line 3 next year.

Cozens could easily play 2nd RW next year. But you will need a centre.

If cozens were to step into a 2nd line centre role he would be your best option you currently own.

First:
If Adams gave up that for Point, it would be trading a good future for maybe making the playoffs this year.
Point was obviously a steal in the third round, but his Junior career is not as outstanding as Cozens is now.
The Sabres are notorious at rushing players to NHL (Grigorenko, Ristolainen, Mittelstadt, Thompson, Girgensons etc.) let's not make the mistake with Dylan.
If Cozens' Junior stats are better than Point and this draft is better than last year, that means this 8th OA will be better than Cozens, and, I repeat, Cozens has better Junior stats than Point.
IMO Buffalo will need more players on their ELC in the next 3 years, Point's contract eats up 6 ELC spots.

Second:
Look below, there are teams that may need to send assets to take cap away.
You all know how much I disliked Murray, and one reason is that he signed Moulson, Gionta, Meszaros etc. at over $13,000,000/year then at the start of the season (3 months after Murray burned the cap space) the Islanders picked up Leddy and Kent Simpson for Ville Pokka, Anders Nilsson and T.J. Brennan.
I want Adams to be smart and trade with teams that are looking cut cost (Skinner, Miller, Montour all picked up for below market value as the teams were looking to shed cap).

@Jamiepo you said it best "I think buffalo has the players to fill out that middle 6 now." Kahun, Olofsson, Reinhart, Eichel, Skinner and any one of Cozens, Mittelstadt, Thompson can fill it out.
Let's not rush this, and why does a Leafs fan understand the Sabre talent better than Saber fans. Maybe it is that the nick name has the Canadian spelling, LOL!

Finally, wait until just before the season starts and maybe get Point or another player from the Bolts, Stastny from the Blues, Saad from the Hawk, etc for nothing or near nothing.

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
– 15 players signed for 2020-21
– Projected cap space: $5.33 million
– Projected LTIR players: none

2. ST. LOUIS BLUES
– 20 players signed for 2020-21
– Projected cap space: $2.05 million
– Projected LTIR players: none

3. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
– 18 players signed for 2020-21
– Projected cap space: $7.35 million
– Projected LTIR players: none

4. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
– 16 players signed for 2020-21
– Projected cap space: $4.59 million
– Projected LTIR players: none

5. ARIZONA COYOTES
– 16 players signed for 2020-21
– Projected cap space: $1.51 million
– Projected LTIR players: Marian Hossa, $5.28 million

Five teams in cap hell.
If Adams starts signing UFA's or making dumb trades before these teams start dumping cap, I will be really upset.
I know everyone hated Botterill but he made trades with teams looking to shed cap.
Murray never did that and it cost the team, if Adams does not, it will cost the team.
