Description
This puts the Armchair in Armchair GM
Trades for futures I'm not picky on adjusting down by a bit
I like Willy (And his contract is better value per pt than Marner, but tradeable) but Domi's energy matches team need better.
DeMelo is replaceable with any solid RHD or a trade for one instead of a future

Kapanen is as good and is younger and has a better skill set. (That speed)

He is also a premium penalty killer

Still, we could get a player as good or better than Kap @ ~20

Not to mention that it involves helping Toronto out of their cap fix, a rival in the division. Decline.

Johnsson is better 5v5 which is where most hockey is played. And hes better on the powerplay too.

Kapanen isnt a "premium penalty killer" hes more of a powerkiller. Not so good in his own zone but always a breakaway threat

Yeah I'm not too picky on value, but Kapanen is younger and has more perceived upside/no injury history/lower cap hit/more discernable talent. The difference in value between 20-40 isn't a lot, and I'm also not too picky on where it goes.

As far as Domi goes, he's a lower cap hit and brings something to the team that's sorely lacking (grit, and driving through closed-system play). He's barely older than Nylander and will command a lower cap hit. His consistency getting points is lower than Nylander but he also doesn't play with as talented players as JT/AM. I'd consider sending Marner out (just one 5on5 point in his last 12 playoff games played) but I highly doubt that's happening (and we'd probably have to retain some cap).

Also: I realize now that I'm not resigning Clifford. Cap friendly doesn't tell you this but if we resign him we have to send a 2nd to LA as I understand.

The TOR-OTT trade is unlikely to happen, but a mid 20s pick for Kapanen for a team like Dallas or Arizona (the teams I'd trade Kapanen and Johnsson too) is definitely reasonable, especially in the case of Dallas that needs more young scoring.

I also believe that Johnsson, who has skill and edge and can put up 20 goals, is worth more than a mid 60s pick - even if teams are scared of his injury history and the flat cap, I believe you could still fetch at least a late 60s pick, maybe get a b-tier prospect in there, but again, that's splitting hairs and the idea is to just get something back for shipping out the asset (and also to just see what the roster looks like).

Domi for Nylander makes sense.
