If Pittsburgh wants to retool, I could see a McCann and zar for deangelo trade happening. although I don't think Pittsburgh wants to separate the zar line

Nothing should be off the table in PIT. They were swept last year and technically miss the playoffs this year. The window is closing rather fast. They need to be openminded to just about anything.

I’d love to have Deangelo. I’m fine with trading those two but a draft pick with Deangelo would be ideal

Imo they need to fire Sullivan and find a 2nd pair RD.

If they're looking to solidify their defense, Deangelo is not the right guy to target lol

Dumoulin-Letang
Pettersson-Marino
Rikola-UFA player

Would be a good D corps. They just need to buy out Johnson

They need to do something of significance in the offseason. The other teams in that division are improving and PIT seems to be sinking in quicksand.

CBJ, CAR, PHI, NYR, NYI and even WSH are still playing well, it's the leagues best division and I think the Pens need a jolt

At this rate I could easily see them missing th playoffs next year u listed 6 teams there and only 5 from the metro can get in

I think it's a bit thin. Injuries would kill this team.

I'd target a D like Montour for example and make him the 2nd pair D. Would roll the pairs as

Dumoulin-Letang
Marino-Montour
Pettersson-Joseph?

In retrospect, I think the Kessel trade was an epic fail...

I think they were just so fed up with him, that they wanted rid of him at all costs.

This would never happen.. ever, but I would explore the market on Malkin. I know he has an NMC, but he has expressed his desire to be a #1C on a team at some point in his career. I know he's aging, but you could get a nice return.

Again, will never happen, but I just think things in PIT are getting stale very fast

They could really benefit from Laf and then package McCann and more for someone like Brodin

Man it'd suck if they get Laf.

Pens are probably the team that deserves him the least.

Those two players won’t get you DeAngelo at all. Add a first and maybe.

We don't want Tony D. We need to solidify our 3rd line and that includes McCann being on it. I'd be willing to part with ZAR tho

They didn’t technically miss the playoffs, but I agree that almost everything should be on the table outside of Crosby and Marino.

Yes they missed. That’s why they are in the draft lotto. The play-in counted as playoff games, but it was to make up for what was left of the regular season. If your picking 1-15, like PIT is, you missed the playoffs

Why would they need a 2nd pair RD? They have Marino and Letang. Marino should be number 1 and Letang 2nd pair next year but I doubt that happens.

No they didn’t. The nhl considered it playoffs and the penguins playoff streak increased to 14 this year lol.

Because their depth on the right side suck. If one of those guys gets injured, Pens are royally f*cked.

Wasn't me who said that. But in terms of performance Pens was the most disappointing in the play-in round. This way they do not deserve the pick.

Yeah but what 2nd pair RD will want to play somewhere only getting 3rd pair minutes until one of the two ahead of him on the depth chart goes down. Then goes back to 3rd pair when they come back? And it’s the same way we’ve dealt with it before. Usually the defense plays better when they are injured cause they play a more simple game...as long as JJ is still 3rd pair.

And fair enough.

As I said, I'd use Marino as 2nd pair LD and pair him with the 2nd pair RD. Marino is versatile and can play both sides.

Yeah but then that still leaves a hole at 3rd pair RD. Wouldn’t want to put Petterson, Riikola, or Joseph on their off-hand...and if we don’t get rid of JJ, surely don’t want to try that nonsense of putting him on the right side again lol.

I think depending on our draft position will depend on how the offseason goes. Getting the 15th pick might be better for the pens to become a more complete team than the number 1 pick. Lafreniere obviously would be amazing but the pens already have Guentzel, Zucker, McCann, and Rust. Plus Poulin and Legare possibly finding spots into the top 9 along with Simon and Hornqvist all for top 9 winger spots. (I want McCann on the wing cause that’s where he plays best).

But getting 15 and one of Sanderson or Schneider being available would be huge for the D Corp for the long term.

Schneider might be available.

Sanderson's very unlikely.

If I were Pens I'd look to sign an UFA player to take the role as the 3rd pair RHD if necessary, or possibly entertain the idea of trading Simon for a guy like Benning for instance.

In the end, that sort of situation should be relatively easy to solve...
