Trade with BUF

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 9, 2020
Published: Aug. 9, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ryan Oreilly when he was traded was one of the top 2 way Centers in the NHL and often top 3 in Faceoffs to boot
When he was traded he got Gregernko(KHL),Zadorov ,Compher and a 2nd round pick

Granted Eichel is 2 years younger and a better player but you're not going to get 2-3 top prospects and a couple high picks or nothing .(nor will you get an established player unless he's a #4 D or middle 6 winger.

Ryan Oreilly years late traded from BUF as the #1 faceoff Center and top two way Center for
Sobotka ,Berglund,Thompson, 1st and a 2nd round pick (middle six guy. 3rd line Center undisputed, Top prospect but not the Top )

Domi has 116 points and 45 goals in 153 games at Center with 44% year 1 and 49% faceoff year 2. Domi's currently a #2 Center who's growing into his role with the potential to still be a #1 guy at just 25 years of age. (young star player entering his prime )

Poehling is a solid prospect with Size who's having his first experience with a full hockey season as he trained in USA. He's adjusting physically quite well at the AHL level although not quite ready for the NHL he's similar to the value of Tage Thompson from the Oreilly trade.

Mete is coming off a career year but was pushed out by Kulak and with Romanov here playing him on 3rd RD is just hurting Juulsen and Fleury's development and ice time. He doesnt need to go in this deal i just though it would give BUF a way to either upgrade Mccabe or replace Risto who wants a trade last i checked.(will insert another prospect of similar value if you dont want LD Mete there's Evans our top AHL scoring Center the past 2 years playing solid on call ups or Ikonen who's got skill but honestly has been lost in the shuffle of MTL's prospect depth chart.

1st and a conditional 2nd that becomes a 1st if MTL makes ECF with Eichel.

Even if you dont want to trade Eichel the Value of whats offered is pretty much what you can expect in today's market. Few teams have the cap and the pieces to put together a trade like this so maybe a 3 team trade would be a possiblity .

Either way i think we can all agree this MTL line up is young ,skilled, speedy and a blue line the can bring the hurt while also contributing offensively. Its almost a guarantee that BUF converts on the 2nd round pick if Suzuki and Eichel can click

If you have the energy to comment
atleast have the energy to offer something intelligent to the conversation .

Otherwise you're just a guy on a key board waiting for new posts to comment on and offer nothing on a Sunday Evening

Name an Example in Context of a time a player got more in Real Life
Its rare a team so willingly pisses off their Franchise player so there's like 3-4 examples of this situation in the past 30 years.

Some of the trades you guys make have no basis in Reality and you couldnt find an NHL trade in history close to what you'd want for a return.
What you want vs What reality will give you is the struggle on this site

you want me to completely expose your ****ty trade? okay fine by me!

let's start with my favorite sentence in the description! "he's similar to the value of Tage Thompson from the Oreilly trade". tage thompson sucks. we literally hate him here in buffalo. so the fact that you're comparing on of the assets in the trade to him is so hilarious. poehling is nothing special. he has a ceiling of a 3C. the prospect that the sabres would demand in a MTL-BUF eichel trade? cole caufield. get this tAgE tHoMpSoN 2.0 out of my face.

you guys remember when victor mete went on a 120 game goal-less streak? yeah i do. that's pretty much all i have to say about that but you're giving us a third pairing defenseman in a jack eichel trade. let that sink in for second and realize how ludicrous that is.

the only useful piece in this trade is max domi. yes he's very good but he's nowhere near jack eichel's level. he's never going to be on jack eichel's level. that would be an unreal downgrade at 1C.

the picks are uncertainties. they could end up turning into busts. no busts allowed in a jack eichel trade. that's why we don't want KK!

jack eichel is a top 5 center. get that through your head and try again.

Theres no high end pieces here. Its a quantity offer that is lacking. The question you should ask is, "does this offer beat 29 other gms offers?". It does not. Even in a flat cap league, all the sabres have to do is take back 10 million in salary and pretty much any team can play.

Montreal being a division Rival would be more than enough to decline.

But as good as Domi is; and he’s young, Eichel is the best asset in the trade by miles.

There’s actually only a handful of teams that would have the assets to make such a deal, this would include the LA Kings, the Ducks, and the Devils are probably in that group. Montreal doesn’t have the assets

I agree with everything except domi. Domi is ok. Just ok. Whether hes a winger or a center, its middle 6, and hes not great defensively for a guy that is pretty inconsistent putting up points. Thats not the main piece coming back for eichel thats the main piece coming back for ristolainen.

The reality is that Jack Eichel is not available, which is why any offer would need to be a severe overpayment. Anything less doesn’t even get the Sabres attention. They have no reason to trade him.

Using the O’Reilly trade as a comparable is a bad idea. Every Sabres fan hates that trade and the Sabres organization gets roasted for it. You can rest assured they won’t make that mistake with Jack.

It’s also worth mentioning that this team isn’t rebuilding, so trading Jack makes zero sense. Ownership wants to end the drought, not start over. That won’t go over well. It’s easier to find a 2C than try to explain trading Jack.

Replace Poehling with Kotkaniemi and Mete with Romanov and maybe you peak Buffalo's interest, just maybe
