Problem is we won't get full value for him but I could see trading him too.

Also Marner is a far better defensive player and is a big reason why JT/Matthews have played so well recently, moreso then Nylander

On the contract signings or trading Barrie?

He should let Marner take the OS and given us 4 1sts plus our 1st from trading Marleau.

There is no way we ever make the playoffs without Marner. Taking the 1st would've been nice but we are a team trying to contend, not be in an infinite rebuild.

In the last 120min (+OT) of vitally important TML franchise hockey - how many minutes realistically did the fresh TML high-powered OFF-squad muster against the mucker-grinder CBJ's...
10min?
20min?
30min?

STOP....

Yeah about 25-30% of playing time... so get the golf clubs for Scottsdale and 4-more years til AM is a 'Yote or Ranger or Hawk or____________' ?

I mean the Leafs had more time on attack and better/more shots but the defense is such **** it didn't matter.

Agreed, I posted that elsewhere that the "D" were turnover machines worthy of Tim's Franchise. However, at US$40M for the "Beatles" the buck stops there!

In which way is he a big reason why JT/AM played well? You had to play your $11 million winger with 2Cs on a single line because he could not do anything himself. Ultimately, that cost you the game because they could not score and your winger who has not played C for more than 3 games in the last 3 years got exposed.

Alright I'll break this down for you:

Good moves:

- Dumped Zaitsev's contract for almost nothing
- Got Mikheyev
- Drafted Sandin
- Drafted Robertson
- Drafted Abruzesse
- Signed JT (Controversial but definitely helped the team)
- Muzzin trade
- Muzzin resigning
- Holl resigning
- Campbell trade
- Spezza
- Not resigning Gardiner
- Not resigning Komorov
- Not resigning JVR
- Not resigning Bozak

Meh moves:
- Nylander and Matthews contracts
- Marleau trade (it had to happen one way or another)

Bad moves:
- Kadri trade (wasn't awful but was definitley underwhelming)
- Marner contract (again not as bad as some people claim but not good either)
- Not trading Barrie at the deadline.
- Messing up backup goalie situation

To further hammer in the point these were our lines opening night the year before Dubas became GM.

Hyman- AM34- Nylander
JVR- Bozak- Marner
Komorov- Kadri- Kapanen
Martin- Boyle- Brown'

Gardiner-Zaitsev
Rielly-Hainsey
Dermott (21 at the time)-Polak

It's crazy how much the team has improved. The defense especially.

The Preds don't have enough defensive depth to be able to spare any of the good guys we actually have. Yes, Josi and Ellis and Ekholm are all awesome and Fabbro is a nice up-and-comer, but there's pretty much nobody behind them.

But why hasn't he improved the defense? Like the biggest need is his Achilles heel.

But he has. Our last 2 1st round picks? Sandin and Liljegren, 2 excellent DMen who our expected to be top-4 guys in the NHL (Sandin especially). Zaitsev and Ceci are about the same. He traded for Muzzin who has been very very good for us. He traded for Barrie who while not amazing is still a solid 2nd pairing guy. Holl and Dermott have also developed into solid bottom-4 guys.

Well. What's the problem then? What do they have to do?

They're still not good enough. The defense is better but not great. The depth was completely exposed after our #2 and #3 in Muzzin and Barrie went down. I think we really just need 1 good RHD that can play with Rielly and we're set. Holl and Muzzin has been a good pairing for a while now. Dermott, Sandin, and Lehtonen (best non-NHL dman) can sort themselves out into the bottom pairing.

A canes fan seems to be down for a Nylander-Pesce swap. I think Pesce would be insane for Toronto but losing Nylander stings.
